Strava inaccuracy

Just completed an 8 mile ride on SYSTM. When it uploaded to Strava it was 121 miles? Anyone know a work around for this?

Hey @geiles and welcome to the forums. Your best bet is to use the “virtual speed” setting when doing workouts in SYSTM. It provides the most accurate estimation of speed and distance for indoor training.
You can find the setting in the workout player once you open one. Hit the gear icon at the top right, then tap devices and you can toggle Virtual Speed to on.
Here is a support article on it for you:

As an alternative to that, you could go do a 113 mile ride outside that doesn’t upload to Strava and that would even things out   :joy: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yep. My workaround is to ignore any speed/distance for indoor training. What’s relevant is duration and effort level (power and/or HR). These are also used to generate the “Training Load” and “Intensity Factor” for a workout or ride. Any speed or distance is just “made up” as actual speed and distance on a trainer is zero.

Well, net distance travelled and average speed are exactly zero indoors, barring a mishap with rollers or a wheel-on trainer. But if you are using a rocker plate, and move 1/8" with each pedal stroke, you’ve moved about 50 feet forward and 50 feet backward in an hour at a reasonable cadence.

Haha! To be fair, a lot of folks like to have a tally of their mileage and include their indoor training in those figures. Even if it’s technically not “real” mileage. Same thing with elevation.

In my case, living in the flatlands of Canada, the vast majority of my elevation gain has been indoors with 2 full virtual Everests, 1 virtual 10k, and many trips up Alpe du Zwift (38 and counting) all from the discomfort of home. #myprairielife
