Hi all.
So, coming up on Jun 24th I have this brutal event:
Being a true Sufferlandrian I have signed up to do 106km. The terrain is rough and hilly with 2300m climbing.
I am currently doing the Gravel plan with it due to finish on the day of the event.
However, I am wondering if as a 49 year old I need to have a longer taper coming in to the event. Looking at the plan it includes a normal taper week, and then the week before that there is Who Dares on Wednesday, a 36 minute tempo workout on Saturday, and a 1h30min Endurace Plus ride on Sunday.
Does that sound like enough taper?
Being a Saturday event, I will have to move things a little bit anyway as the plan is based on a Sunday event.

I’m a few years older, have done similar things and a week long taper should be fine.
Especially if you were pretty conscientious in your training.
Now go CRUSH it!!

I wouldn’t do an hour and a half ride the week of the event. However, the day before I would do one of:
Primers
Recharger
Openers
I would be fueling as well.
60+ miles of riding demands it. You can’t eat enough to meet the demands you will put on your body during the event.

Have you done prior events before and trialled different tapers already? Generally I would say for someone your age who is regularly active, that level of taper should be god but it is dependant on the individual. How do you feel with a taper before a power test or the week after a rest week?

Thanks Andy. Yeah, it is fine for Full Frontal and 90 minute XC races. I just wasn’t sure about this longer type of race 4+ hours.
I just caught a cold last weekend so that has shifted my plan a bit now.
