I publicly stated I would NEVER do this one again.

 Guess you’ll be doing it again!

Yep yep. Nice to see you taking pleasure in (my) other people’s misery hey  True Sufferlandrian spirit there :smiling_imp:

The uncomfortable have nothing to fear so, I guess I have nothing to fear. #itwillallbefine #itwillallbefine #itwillallbefine

Well there’s the other evil of Defender there which is Attacker. But I guess, Sir @Glen.Coutts , you prefer to attack than to defend :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Baloney, I’ll be uncomfortable and fearful that what went down will come back out after the second hill climb in that nasty little workout. I barely held it together the first time I did it.

I would dump the strength training that week

100%

Does this mean that the nuclear option is to ride all stages at 120%?

Well if my math is right, 120-125% might just do it…

The route looks good and would have made a great ToS but alas with the lack of motivation has not come to this. Sorry but the renaming is annoying, and the release was like a corporate training video. It has nothing like the drive, thrill, and willingness to suffer.

Last year I was so motivated that I even managed to complete the tour while moving states and trying to find a new home while starting a new job.

I will put in a donation to a charity here in Australia but will be looking for another challenge.

That’s too bad Sir. You know where you can find us, if you change your mind. And, I think there’s still some room on the squad.

Everything you say is true. However, if you find the actual race exciting, and the camaraderie will be there, what difference does it make what they call it, or how they announced it? That can be easily forgotten.

Those of us who have done Elements of Style remember the Sufferlandrian history where the movement had to go underground. Given current circumstances, history might repeat.

@Heretic I haven’t quite baked my plan for that week yet but will probably scale a few of the workouts as I am doing lots of offseason lifting and can’t go too far into the red with my riding.

Another approach which I used last year (when I also scaled some workouts) was to really push on the 50 hour window. So I started the 1st workout just inside the 50 hour window and finished my last workout towards the other edge of the 50 hour cycle and ended up having one or two days with no workout using that technique. So lots of options.

Frankly I would be surprised if the badge feature within SYSTM can register that you scaled a workout anyway. It likely just registers completion.

For scheduling reasons, I almost always push the 50 hour window.

This year, I have several important, long group rides with lots of climbing scheduled slightly more than 2 weeks before the start of the Tour. The week before the Tour will definitely be a taper week. What the week before that looks like will depend on how I feel after my aforementioned rides.

My general approach to tour rides is:

  1. I do at 100% all rides that correspond to my fitness goals.
  2. Ride new rides at 100% - this may be more difficult this year because it looks like, unlike other years, there may be more than one new ride.
  3. Scale down all other rides. Sometimes I scale down all 4DP metrics, sometimes just AC and MAP.

I will just adjust the rides based on how I feel. I have been officially told that I can scale down the rides and get the badge.

Not being a whiner and really happy enough with Wahoo SYSTM and not having any software problems and having enough time to train…it grieves me that the poster for this year’s Tour is, well, a big zero compared to previous years. Sorry…I had to say it.
