ToS Stage 7 ! - OPEN! - Official Thread

Before (Going out in style with the nicest jersey I have.)

After

“Endure. In enduring grow strong.”
This was my first tour and I have only been using sufferfest for about a month. I started on the focused option but did the last four stages full gas. It was a lot of fun and a great challenge. After the longer recoveries on defender the short ones on attacker were rough.
I did Half Ramp a week or so before the tour and think I need to do the Full Monty soon. ToS while painful and a challenge wasn’t as painful as I expected, so I am wondering if my numbers are a little off.

Tour…done! Rode into form and managed to dial it up to “thermonuclear” towards the end (>100%). I think that means I need to do another 4DP in a couple of weeks. :grimacing: And consider a Knighthood :grimacing::grimacing:

Thanks Dave, Dylan & SUF Wahoo dudes for orchestrating another awesome Tour.

Really pleased to complete my first ToS. As someone relatively new to cycling and indoor training I surprised myself cycling everyday for a week for the first time.

My 50+ year old body now needs some tender, loving care to say thanks! Chiropractor/massage appointment already booked for Monday.

What next…?

Well that was fun! ToS #1 in the bag and my quads are fully nuclear - that 9th hammer :scream: thanks to SUF HQ for organising such a great challenge, & to all in the peloton for the motivation. now off to the Tavern to replace some of that lost Holy Water :beers:

Attacker was cool, liking the SUFSport sports channelesque look. Am I the only one who giggles a little when the hamstalife banner comes up on the highlight ticker?

Last day, last double.

The Defender started hard on the tired legs. I remember in 2019 Tour, it almost finished me, so the respect is significant. That final music stuck with me for a long time, always triggering emotions and became part of my cycling playlist ever since. But somehow after a first interval, it felt believable I can actually finish this in form.

The Attacker I found easier, playing to my strengths. So I’ve decided to make it a bit harder and interesting to watch by a live broadcast, my first ever. The ego writing checks and all that, I’ve thought to add some % to power targets throughout, the decision I AM, quite predictably, regretting the following day.

So just like that, my third Tour is finally finished, nuclear. I found it a little bit easier (after Nine Hammers stage that is) than the previous years, which was obviously by design and thanks very much GvA for being sensible. It also made me realise, that the racing last few months increased my numbers somewhat. Lack of break before the ToS meant I’ve skipped pre-tour FF, which in retrospect was an oversight I’ve tried to compensate by +5% here and +10% there. That worked well, but the real FF is on order in few days and only that will see how “nuclear” my version of nuclear really was. I suspect I’ve been walking the cautious line, which makes me worry about upcoming training :flushed:

So far I can report fragmented sleep, higher morning and resting HR, lower HRV, constant hunger and the fact todays 2hr easy walk was a little bit of a funny sight to behold, since my legs are having mind of their own. We all know the next 2 days will be even worse :joy: Strangely my HR/HRV, while still on more fatigued side, is improving throughout the week, since - you’ve guessed it - day 2 after Nine Hammers. Oh dear.

Well done everyone for participating and finishing this glorious Tour. You’ve done yourselves, all of us and DPF proud.

P.S.: My only personal regret is the fundraising. I don’t know what is your experience, but this year it was nearly impossible to find anyone willing to chip in even the smallest amounts. Wish I could do more.

Done. A “pleasure”, as always. Enjoyed your company. Hoping for a fast mini recovery today, and then an OUTSIDE RIDE tomorrow in the snow. Take care and SYOTR.

I just finished my first ever ToS! I rode it in memory of my Dad, who had Parkinson’s. The Tour was a great challenge and experience, and the best part was seeing all the posts and encouragement from this community. I didn’t really contribute anything myself, but still felt like a part of the group and really appreciated the camaraderie, especially at Stage 6 which was a low point for me. Thanks to everyone in Sufferlandria for helping me keep sane by suffering over the last year!

Wow. First TOS Complete. Took 30 mins into Defender before my legs seemed to be truly turned on and working sorta. This last stage was all mental. Tried every trick in the book. In the end, final push on Attacker, I was silently chanting “Fam, Fam, Fam”. Love got me through.

Great experience. Very proud. You all are an amazing community. Thanks to the Minions!

See you next time.

Looking for that post ride recovery espresso martini. . .

That was an awesome Tour! Legs are definitely well cooked! Congratulations to all the Sufferlandrians! Now I have to finish drywalling a room , please GVA tell my wife you have assigned me another ride. I would much rather be cycling than drywalling!!
