I’m just coming out of my last 2 targeted events this year (120km road sportive and a 55mile gravel this weekend), and I’m signed up for WeRideFlanders 24 (a 50th birthday ‘gift’) - I’ve chosen the 144km distance.
Thinking it through, I’ve a 12 week block to the year-end during which I’ll focus on gym work and establishing a really good base. Is the steer here for the mountainous/fondo plan? I absolutely must improve on FTP and W/kg if I’m to stand a chance, I think. I’m a sprinter rider type.
I’m doing the same - 2 months of strength & conditioning before kicking off the main plan for Flanders '24 (and a handful of other silly events).
Happy I’ve got the S&C work about right, but wanted to double check the best plan to use.
I’ve used Mountain Fondo the last 2 years (with fairly good success), but some insight into what the different plans focus on I think would be really helpful.
Have you considered pulling your own plan together from 4DP Building Blocks? I’m considering that this time round, but haven’t worked out the right split and what order to do them yet…
@Edd That is a good question. The plans on the surface seem intuitive but taking a deeper dive would probably be a great subject for an article or podcast.
For the building blocks there is the below article which might be helpful to you.
