after years of passive reading I clipped out of my pedal-shaped shackles and crawled out of my SUF-Cave to raise my loyal-customer’s voice here:
Can I, can we please have the original footage of the Igniter warm up session back?
I regularly used the original Sufferfest version as a warm up session and I liked it very much - to get into the flow by virtually being part of a team time trial, a nice training prologue.
The new version is just carelessly done:
bad video editing in terms of timing and storyline (gone is the nice onboard-perspective as a team member)
completely gone are the quips about the virtue of suffering (with funny references to Wittgenstein and Russell)
the soundtrack remains untouched (which went along very well with the flow of the original footage), but it does not relate to the new video. For instance, you still can hear the count down for the team to start into the time trial - which makes no sense in the new version, thus illustrating the careless editing.
Why do I complain at length? I do to reinforce the calls to keep the spirit and all the nice little details of The Sufferfest alive in this app (at least when retaining or using the Sufferfest label for a session, and out of respect for your loyal (Sufferlandrian) customers). And to prevent further video and story tampering as it happened to Igniter, Primers, G.O.A.T., …
Perhaps The Company, c/o @Rupert.H could explain to its loyal customers why SUF is being de-SUFed out of SUF branded suf stuff? #stopsuffingupthesuf
That said, WELCOME to the forums @FritzB! Two things. First, I don’t work here. I’m just a citizen of the greatest mythical nation in the whole wide world, like you. Second, if it were possible to agree with you more than 100%, I would. Third, I’d encourage you to write The Company via its official channel with your concerns since they so rarely weigh in here in the forums except to announce a few things now and again, when they remember. Public communication is not their strength.
Just looked into the first 10 minutes and find your observations quite accurate unfortunately. Most parts are video of the front moto and from the helicopter. Not as igniting as it was. Like doing the workout to any random race footage.
The “official” reason given for the video change was because of licensing. So, that required the substitution of newly (or differently) licensed video instead.
That doesn’t explain the de-SUFfing or the poor video choices or the poor editing. It is only the official reason that we were given for the update.
I’ll speculate that perhaps Wahoo lost licensing of some set of footage on somewhat short notice and there wasn’t much time to do more than the bare minimum to replace? I haven’t looked at the new Igniter, but Primers is basically “last 20k of a fake race” with minimal editing.
Now for extra credit, can we reverse engineer what rights were lost based on the race footage that got yanked?
