I have a Giant Stance ebike with a Yamaha motor, mounted with SRAM AXS. I purchased a Wahoo Bolt to replace the Ride Dash display but I am very disappointed.
Bolt shows correct speed but wrong distance, about 50% lower, and all related values of course.
If Summit is activated, the distances and times to the summit are fine.
It also shows the correct rpm.
This means that Bolt reads the values from the wheel well, the problem is apparently only in Bolt and the calculation of some values.
When exporting to Strava, all the values are fine, but the distance is half.
Wheel circumference settings in ELEMNT have no effect on distance.
The Bolt doesn’t show the bike’s battery level, but warns of a low value. The same goes for the AXS SRAM battery.
Wahoo is said to know about the problem and is solving it, but no result yet.
I don’t understand how a company can release a product for sale with elementary errors.
Complaints and refunds are problematic, the seller will fight because Wahoo guarantees the connection and the loss would go to the seller’s account.
Thank you, the setting is metric, the speed is fine. No other sensors. I’m mainly interested to see if anyone has used the Bolt with a Giant ebike or had similar issues with another ebike.
I tested the Garmin Edge 530. Everything works and the values are loaded correctly. Never believe the propaganda. Never trust a description. Never trust Wahoo. Never buy a Wahoo.
FWIW @Jiri I’d been using Garmin bike computers since about 2015, including the Edge 530 which had been a pretty solid performer for me too though I had a few significant issues with them that they never could resolve. One issue, pretty minor was doing indoor rides where auto-pause was not engaging. Another issue, a much bigger one, I had with it, was during a very long climbing event where I had to save, upload then delete the file for my ride after every 10 reps of a short hill or I’d get an error in continuing I did a total of about 300 reps so that was a real pita!
I’ve been using a wahoo ROAM2 since wahoo released them a couple years back and I have to say that I have NEVER had a significant problem. I even prefer wahoo’s implementation of the radar better than Garmin’s own even though the radar unit I use is a Garmin Varia. For my purposes, there’s really only one feature that isn’t as reliable as I’d like (Live Track) but for the ones I use all the time and I rely on, it’s been rock solid. I can’t say the same for the Garmin.
I don’t have long-term experience, but I can confirm that Wahoo is more user-friendly. That was also the reason for the purchase. But my complaint concerns the connection with Ebike, when I wanted to have Ebike information and navigation on one device. Wahoo has a long-standing underlying problem that they are not addressing, and the solution is evidently Wahoo’s.
I can understand your disappointment, it’s frustrating that this appears to be a known issue that Wahoo haven’t resolved.
If you unpair the eBike from the Roam does the Roam then record correctly? If so, what data do you lose from the head unit (e.g. Cadence), and does being without them make significantly damage your use of the Roam? e.g. you could always add a cadence sensor if that’s the main thing you’ve lost.
If that’s still no good I think sadly, returning the unit if you can may be the best option.
Problem solved. I filed a complaint with the seller and now after the statutory period they are refunding my money. But the problem is that Wahoo does not communicate with the seller at all !!! Makes a dead bug. Exemplary customer and seller support !!!
The same situation with my claim directly to support of Wahoo
@Jiri Are the controls on the e-bike made by Bosch? Heard elsewhere that Bosch may have some proprietary deal with Garmin and block all other companies from accessing data.
I have two e-bikes, a Merida eScultura road bike using the Mahle X35 system and a Giant Reign E+ eMTB using the Yamaha system.
Both bikes connect to my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt (original) and my new Roam v2 using ANT+. The distance recorded from the Mahle X35 is always correct, however the distance recorded from the Yamaha system is always wrong.
When I got the Giant eMTB, the distance was initially recording approximately 3 times higher than that actually ridden.
After I applied a firmware update to the eMTB in February 2024, the distance errors changed to being approximately half that actually ridden.
I applied another firmware update to the eMTB in April 2024 and the distance errors have changed back to being 3 times greater.
I have raised a question with Giant to try to find out what data was changed during the two firmware updates in February and April 2024.
From my experience, it would appear that it is the Wahoo software and not the Elemnt devices themselves that are at fault and that Wahoo need to work with Giant to resolve this issue. I won’t hold my breath.
If the Giant Ride Control App could connect to a HRM, then I would not bother using the Wahoo when riding the Giant eMTB.
