Wahoo February Challenge: Tour Prep

Tour Prep

A taste of what’s to come.

The Tour isn’t just a tough few days on the bike; it’s a shared challenge that brings the Wahooligan community together to push limits, support one another, and raise funds for the Davis Phinney Foundation, whose mission is to help people living with Parkinson’s live well today.

With just 1 month to go until we line up on the start line, the SYSTM February Challenge is designed to help you start building the physical and mental resilience you’ll need when the Tour gets real. We’ve selected four workouts that narrowly missed the final vote (Add forum link) — not because they were easy, but because they offer a perfect preview of what’s to come: sustained pressure, repeated efforts, and moments where digging deep is the only option. Consider this your first proper taste of Tour prep.

Alongside the challenge, we also have the Tour training plans. These plans can be loaded directly into your calendar, making it easy to stay consistent and focused as you build toward the Tour.

Don’t forget: if you haven’t already, be sure to register for the Wahooligan Tour and start your fundraising. Every rider counts, and every effort helps support an amazing cause.

Let’s get to work — Tour prep starts now. :flexed_biceps::woman_biking:

The 4 Workouts

Complete all four of the workouts below in SYSTM to earn your badge:

  • A Very Dark Place: Long, relentless efforts designed to test your ability to stay composed when the pressure never lets up

  • Blender: A mix of intensities that keeps your legs guessing and trains you to respond when the pace constantly changes.

  • The Shovel: Big, heavy work that rewards patience and grit as fatigue builds with every interval.

  • 14 Vise Grips: Short, repeatable efforts that lock on tight and don’t let go until the job is done.

:gear: How It Works

Complete all 4 cycling workouts in any order on Wahoo SYSTM by February 28 to earn your badge.

:spiral_calendar: TRAINING PLAN

We have created a training plan for you this month with all the workouts on consecutive days for you to re-arranged throughout the month to suit your training schedule and earn your badge.

I’ve already got a tour prep plan in my calendar. Have the prep plans been updated to include these workouts, or will we need to swap them in? Keen to do this challenge as some of my favourite workouts there.

These are 4 additional workouts to the tour prep plans (each plan is different due to volume).

you’re telling me to just suffer more. Good point, received and understood.

Considering that was posted on January 30th and these need to be done by January 31, this really is a Kick(in the @$$)starter! GvA would be proud.

Lol! I might miss the badge in that case

How very convenient that all but The Shovel are in my MAP block plan for February.

Had forgotten how much I dread 14 Vise Grips… Never seem to be able to complete it at 100%. First set, ok it is touch, but you manage to suffer through the 2 min intervall, and you’re good. But the second? Fogetaboutit! Just barely make it through when dialing down a few notches…

I completed vise grips yesterday morning. At 100% and I was completely exhausted. In the evening, I suddenly got cramps in both legs. Crazy.

14 Vise Grips: the gift that keeps on giving :smiling_face_with_horns:

It’s one of the few SUF videos, thst wasn’t turned down slightly when the tweaks were made a few years ago. It’s properly hard. The second 2 min effort is always touch and go.

Not sure I’ve ever seen that bit….

I screwed up doing it once messing with the intervals list in WA and accidentally did 15 Vice Grips. That was fun.

Somehow, on very tired legs, I made it through 14VG this morning (I had to employ all the techniques in the Bat to do so and haven’t yet got all the bits of stem from my teeth) and in doing so completed the Feb challenge and the last hard workout in my tour prep. Now to taper.

I LOVE 14 Vise Grips. For me, it is so perfectly SUF. I was smiling and smirking and laughing at the start. Chewing stem in the 2 minutes of the 2nd set. The SUF text throughout is soooo perfectly placed. Barely made it through without dialing it down. And, most importantly, won both the men’s AND the women’s races (again!). We really are BADASSES!!

Likewise, it is a proper SUF session, always a hard one to get through.
