SYSTM JULY Challenge: Grand tour Contender

Wahoo July Challenge: Grand Tour Contender

You aren’t just riding; you’re protecting a GC lead. In a Grand Tour, the winner isn’t always the person with the highest peak power, but the one who can still produce high-threshold watts after four hours of racing.

This month replicates that relentless, high-volume stress. These sessions simulate the transition from a high-speed peloton to the “soul-crushing” final kilometers of a major mountain stage. To wear the jersey at the end of the month, you must survive the grind.

hmmm… disappointing. I was hoping for something epic. Apart from the fact that I’m really not into Pro Rides, I don’t see the point in calling this a Grand Tour Contenderwhen in fact it only includes one Grand Tour workout. So imo you should leave the Giro, and then find three more workouts that suit the topic

I can see both sides. I like the idea behind the challenge, but I also get why some people were expecting more Grand Tour-themed workouts. Keeping the Giro ride and adding sessions inspired by the Tour de France or Vuelta would have made the theme feel more complete. That said, I’m still going to give it a try since it’s always fun to have a monthly goal to work toward. It should be a good way to stay motivated and mix up the training a bit.

No workouts left with TdF footage, they all got remastered…

Perhaps the classic climbs of France OLs would fit better. The men’s tour goes up Alpe d’Huez twice this year, now there’s an idea…

The ventoux pro ride would fit too, whilst it’s not footage from the tour, that climb is synonymous with the tour and believe the women’s race goes up it this year. Maybe one for the August challenge….

No badge for me this month.

I find the Pro-rides are way to tough using ERG mode. I use them only as zone 2 rides in level mode during the winter instead of an Open or inspiration ride. Not this month.

Why not just reduce the intensity? I dial them down to a 75% or so when I need a Z2 effort, but want the ProRide vibe…

I was thinking the same as I struggle to complete a pro ride. I gave the first one a go and it was just as hard as I thought it would be :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:, I will take @dukhuntr top tip and try dialling down the intensity with the aim of getting to the end alive. Hope you decide to get the badge :crossed_fingers: :sports_medal:
