Wahoo Speedplay Cleats

I’ve now broken 3 Easy Tension cleat springs in the last 12 months or so. As far as I know I’ve installed them correctly, torqued to 2nm and regularly spray them with GT85. I did buy a job lot of Speedplay Zero cleat parts so that I had a supply of c springs to avoid having to buy a whole new set of cleats - an eye watering £50 in the UK!

The spring off a Zero cleat appears to be slightly thicker and almost impossible to squeeze together by hand but it clips in an out easy enough.

Anyway it got me thinking if the Wahoo Standard Tension Cleats are also slightly thicker and more robust than the Easy Tension ones? What makes them more ‘harder’ to clip in/out?

Any comments would be appreciated including tips to prolong cleat spring life. I love my Speedplay pedals but it’s getting a bit silly now in terms of the cost.
