What will happen with SYSTM / SUF after the last round of layoffs?

Yeah, it seems weird to me that they would have potentially folded so abruptly…

Which race series?

I’m taking over NorCal Tuesday Nighter from @Dan_Connelly (9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific). His last event as host is tomorrow night after which I’ll take the reins on the rebranded “North America Tuesday Nighter” the following week at the same time.

The reason hardware and software integration is so hard is that people in the hardware business (such as Wahoo) just do not understand how to build software.

I have seen this too many times in my software consulting career.

Is The Knowledge podcast done?

Who wants to blow up Neal Henderson’s LinkedIn (or Twitter) to see if he can spill the beans as to what’s going on behind the moat at Wahoo?

I don’t think the Company will shut down the platform that quickly, rather I hope they won’t do it because we really do have good content on SYSTM.

The Rival watch is currently sold for 129 EUR (VAT included) in Europe, which is a ridiculous price. I suppose this is the end for the watch platform. Does a multisport platform make sense without seamless watch integration?

I very much doubt they will shut down the regular earner of the software but not surprised to see some rationalization with the original founder taking back over.
Would expect see some more coming in the trainer side given most people have a good trainer after covid and there also seems to still be a lot of 2 tier ones on Ebay for sale.

I just hope they drop the anchor that is RGT before it drains the coffers dry trying to get it to a point that is comparable to Zwift.

If they gave up on RGT that’d be it for me on the subscription side. >_>

And vice versa - to be fair.

SIGH.

Still mostly like it. Would’ve been nice to get past a 75% solution (and im probably being generous).

Yes, but it is relatively rare for the software people to go into the hardware business.

When the hardware becomes a commodity, the hardware people generally decide they should develop software. They do not realize that requires a change in approach.

Now that is fair @Heretic !

@Heretic This is somewhat confusing to me as Wahoo was known for its use of an app to configure its bike computers prior to buying Sufferfest so they did have some blend of hardware and software. That app was one of the reasons I bought my Bolt over getting a Garmin. Are you talking more about the subscription side of the business?

The app for configuring a bike computer is a lot easier and more straight forward than programming an application such as Sufferfest, RGT, Rouvy, Zwift, etc… The latter is way more complex, with many more moving parts.

I would argue that Wahoo is trying to expand their watch business as their logo was plastered everywhere including a rival watch being the official time board at the finish line during last weeks UTMB ultra race. There would be no reason to dump that much money in advertisements at the largest ultra race of the year if you planned on getting rid of the one product that makes you applicable to that market.

Also, Wahoo is pushing this even further with multiple posts and emails about Jim Walmsleys (Wahoo athlete) amazing record setting win at the race.

That is EXC news! Had no idea. OTOH, there hasn’t been an update or new feature rollout since 1.54.31 in Dec 2022, was my point.

There are any number of areas where the watch functionality could be improved, but just….crickets from Wahoo this year.

I agree. It was the major factor in my decision to stay with a Garmin Forerunner when I smashed my last one in a bike crash a few weeks ago.
