What will happen with SYSTM / SUF after the last round of layoffs?

There was also the Apple 3, and the Lisa.

I do not disagree with your comment about the potential winners. The issue is that there has to be a fundamental change in mindset with respect to software development. I never saw that with SYSTM.

Even if there were no content updates, I will stay pay to use the SYSTM app and existing plans and content, as it’s already extremely well-rounded. The SYSTM workout player does what it needs to do, I’d be happy with no changes to that even in the long term, as it just works.

And then the majority of workouts I enjoy are actually pretty much vintage or remastered Sufferfest. And then there’s Yoga with Abi, etc.

So I’m not going anywhere, once a Sufferlandrian, always a Sufferlandrian.

Which of the sensors reads higher?
I had a similar problem but my HRM-Dual reads waaaaaaaaaay higher or waaaaaaaay lower than what my watch or pulse oximeter tells me.
But when I use the rather old HRM3S, the reading is from the HRM3S is within 2-3 beats of the watch or pulse oximeter

Well I almost certainly will leave in a years time when my subscription expires, if the content and software are not regularly updated, so Wahoo, please keep adding to the exceptional videos and great software you already have.

“Well rounded”?

I am told to write down my running workouts with pen&paper and follow it. The history section is still beta and does not show thumbnails for long activities. There are no weekly/monthly/yearly statistics to analyse your workouts.

This is more to the entire group than just Glen. As much as I like the SYSTM content, if you don’t continue to innovate you die. Things need to be continually updated and new stuff needs to be offered. I have a bunch of old CTS and Spinervals DVDs that I don’t use anymore because SYSTM is better. There are many people who don’t want to do the same workouts over and over again and if new workouts aren’t added a competitor will come out with something that will draw people away from SYSTM.

As the saying goes: “content is king”

Even if we get new content, without the Sports Science Center we cannot get explanations for our questions about the workouts.

It is not enough just to get new content, we need to understand how we can or cannot use that content to achieve our personal goals.

Oh I can’t disagree more, @Heretic. Really? Man I pair my HR strap to my Rival watch so i can get decent #’s and consistent returns.

I mean, I could certainly be wrong, but ive used Suunto, Polar, and now Wahoo and never have I seen a wrist based HRM that outperforms a chest strap.

As I said, all my chest strap HRMs stop working, no matter what the brand, no matter how I clean them, no matter how many times I change the batteries.

If it does not connect, it does not matter if it is more accurate.

I use a Garmin watch.

@Mecons I think this was one of the reasons that RGT was purchased to add some breathing room for the content development process.

I tend to agree. There are thousands of ‘rides’ available on the RGT platform.

But it suffers from a few BIG issues. First, except for a select few rides, the terrain on all rides is just their made up scenery. After the 20th time (and I am being generous) it gets really boring. You can switch to something else to watch, but then you lose the other riders, be they bots or real.

Second, I find the stability of the platform at best a C-, again being generous. Unless someone is keen on me ranting again, I will leave it at that.

Third, there is no assistance on what to ride, where to find rides, how they should be used, etc. For the most part it is just a library of different rides, mostly on the same repetitive terrain.

When training I use the Systm rides and fill in with RGT for something specific. For me Systm is 98% of the value, RGT = 2%.

I wonder if this could be related to sodium or other electrolyte sweat levels affecting the chest strap material more significantly than they might an optical wrist/arm sensor. Sodium levels in sweat tend to vary significantly between individuals, so possibly that could explain the differences in people’s experiences.

I don’t have a wrist/arm optical sensor to compare to, but my main issue with heart rate monitors and SYSTM is consistent problems reconnecting after ending a workout and restarting or starting a new one. This seems likely due to the way Bluetooth connections are managed in the SYSTM code rather than the sensor itself, however, as I don’t experience the same problem in RGT or any other apps, only in SYSTM.

While I’d stay without new content, don’t interpret that to mean that I don’t want any. I really REALLY do. But, I’m not a fan at all of the Pro Rides and as much as I enjoy the OL series and the AWW series these are one and done for me for the most part. What keeps me here is The Sufferfest vids that I can repeat over and over and…

That, and the science. So, while Sir Neal has left the building, sport science hasn’t. We still have Sir Mac and Dr Jinger. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Sir Neal’s company is contracted on occasion for advice/consulting etc.

@Critmark Sure - those are valid points regarding RGT. Seems like there still is some wood to chop for that programming team.

For the offseason I was doing a lot of the NoVids - there are a lot of good workouts in that library, especially the progressions. I would sometimes just stare at the workout graph and play music or a podcast but other times I would pull up a pro race that I had recorded or something on YouTube and it worked fine to get me through the workout.

Obviously the Sufferfest and OL videos are a lot more slick - definitely a nice feature to have versus a more graph focused platform like Trainer Road. However, I don’t mind figuring out how to do it differently when needed.

You could very well be right, but this problem persists even after washing it.
I have had that reconnection problem with chest straps, but not with the wrist HRM.

The chests traps have been Bluetooth/ANT+, but the wrist HRMs have been ANT+.

I gave away a set of UNUSED CTS DVDs because I was using The Sufferfest at the time. Overlapping processes.

@Heretic I went down that road myself. I have a 1st gen Wahoo HRM and a Polar H10. Neither would connect and I tried replacing batteries several times and then bought two replacement straps on Amazon. I used my watch in the meantime.

Then both original straps started working again and so I now have two extra straps. For the Polar sensor what seemed to help is forgetting and reinstalling the sensor on my phone via the Polar app - had to do it a few times. I now use the Wahoo sensor (since it just accepts one BT connection) with my bike computer.

Also, when I am done working out I remove the sensors from the strap and hold them in front of a fan so that the contacts completely dry and wipe the strap as well and put it in front of the fan which is on a timer. No idea if any of this is actually effective but it is working for me a present.
