I SUFFER for them… Fall of 2014 I was 330 pounds and couldn’t go up a flight of stairs… the twins were 6 months old and I knew I had to change… I immigrated to Sufferlandria and have been SUFFERING ever since!

I was cycling the UK end to end thinking I was fairly fit when this elderly man caught me up.He was in his mid 70s, think cast iron bike with wicker basket, trousers stuffed into socks, tweed jacket, check shirt with tie.He wanted to ride to a cafe, I was stopping at one a few miles down the road so I suggested we ride together. After a few minutes he shot off over the horizon never to be seen again.I was following a British Cycling training plan at the time and I thought “This is not working” I think of this man when the Suff workout gets hard and it drives me on.

Similar in a way to @John_S - so I’m healthier and might live a bit longer for family.
And it’s a great stress reliever as well though my waking HR seems to be rising not falling but that’s a different matter

Al, you gotta watch out for those 70 year olds. I had a few blow my doors off when I lived in Italy. I knew then I was going to do everything I can to be like them when I grow up :+1::volcano:

Pushing myself and being a better than my previous self each time I get on the bike.

In a selfish way, I not only like seeing the numbers increase on my head unit, but I like that I have to slow down so some of the people I ride with can keep up with me.

Sir McQuillen,
They are Truly Glorious Creatures. Though I found there Hunting techniques on Mt. SUFFERLANDRIA quite unsettling. I do Nine Hammers whenever I think of these :doughnut::doughnut::joy:

To get faster, better, stronger so I can keep up with my DF (diamond frame - road bikes) friends and they don’t have to wait for me. And I love the personal challenge of improving measured by the FF.

That is cool!!! I actually want to give something like that a test ride…But I’m thinking fairing for…as Jeremy Clarkson says, “SPEED!!!” What type a speed can you get?

Right now I’m at 14 mph. I used to be 10.5. But this is a lighter sleeker trike than what I had before and I’ve got Sufferfest. My other one had a fairing and it really made a difference. Noticeable if it was windy. I’m sure it helped routinely. If you’re a mean, green, fighting machine you could really get up some speed. It’s all quad muscles. Climbing is a nemesis. But you’ll smoke them on a downhill. What I’m riding now is pretty low profile so I don’t want to distract from the looks with a fairing. It’s an ICE VTX. That model has held the world’s record in speed for years. I’ve seen in Strava where some are cruising at 17 mph. But since some are interchanging road bikes and trikes it can be hard to know what they may be riding. And there are a lot of eAssist models now. And I’m a 66 year young female.

Now, I am definitely going to figure out how to get a test ride on one. I don’t have any descent bike shops here. But, there area few by Orlando. So, the next time (maybe long time right now) we head to the “Mouse’s House” with kids. I’ll do a little recon. Having the speed sounds right up my alley, no climbing here in Florida. So with all this flat, I might as well go fast.

I I don’t remember if I mentioned it in a thread. But I have an ICE VTX. The world’s fastest trike. Has held that title for years. It’s my understanding that the Catrike 700 is fast. And they’re made in Florida.

As I have already said once upon a time on the Facebook page, 5.5 years ago I wasn’t a Sufferlandrian cyclist but I was a runner (I had the Sufferlandrian mentality though, I assure you) and I underwent surgery for a brain tumour. Due to complications I almost died, my consultant said if I wasn’t as fit as I was I would likely be dead now. My resting HR was low 40s, yet in hospital for over 1 month it never dropped below 100…if my RHR was 65-70bpm I’d have almost certainly had a heart attack.

This almost scared me into trying to be as healthy as possible. You never know what’s around the corner :frowning:
