Zwift play with wahoo routes

This knight is coming home. After a long time of wondering around in the wilderness, I’m finally coming back to castle.

Things have changed a lot since I was last at a flogging station including being able to ride real world routes on the wahoo app, the creation of zwift cog/play/click and wahoo working with zwift a lot.

I ride the kickr V6 which is compatible with all the zwift play bits and pieces but my question is, when riding the real world routes in the wahoo app will the zwift click/play work for changing gears?

Thanks for helping out a curious knight of the realm

The short answer is no. The long answer is: where there’s a will…

I use the Zwift play and the qzfitness app that allows me to use pretty much any other app out there to control the trainer while still being able to use the Zwift Play to shift virtual gears.

Thanks! Just trying to wrap my head around this. I’m fortunate to be have multiple devices available and the kickr V6 connects to multiple devices at the same time via Bluetooth.

So, in simple terms…

Download QZ app (device 1)

Connect kickr and zwift click to QZ

Connect kickr to wahoo app (device 2)

Ride on wahoo, change virtual gears/resistance through QZ app

So… I’m riding effectively on two apps at the same time, looking at wahoo but changing resistance via QZ?

Hmm. Sorta kinda. The qz app is not the most intuitive and it’s kinda awkward and bulky but it’s also not suuuper complicated either. Just kind of a faff initially until it’s set up. Once it’s set up, it’s fairly straightforward…

My steps now are 1) plug in trainer, 2) turn on Zwift play, 3) open the app I want to use for riding and make sure trainer is connected to it (I’ve done this in SYSTM and in TPv) so I imagine it’ll be the same for the WA. 4)open qzfitness (it’ll show that it’s connected to your stuff)
5) ride. And by ride I mean start the app you’re using, in your case the WA, in my case SYSTM or TPv (either on my MacBook streamed to AppleTV for Systm or the AppleTV app for TPv.)

Once it’s all connected then I can use the Zwift Play to shift gears virtually (including the tactile feedback) with the qzfitness app running in the background on my phone. You can use the qzfitness app to change gears virtually as well but if you have Zwift Play that kind of defeats the purpose.

You won’t see what “gear” you’re in unless you open the qz app but you can feel what gear you’re in by how easy or hard you have to pedal.

Edit: the critical thing is to connect to the app you want to use first (for you, that’s WA) then open qz second.

This makes sense and I’ll give it a go! Thanks for your help

Sure thing. Always happy to help others in their suffering.
