Adding non-ride activities to Systm Calendar

Is it possible to add other non ride personal events to the Calendar e.g. when you have a holiday or something else (spouse’s birthday!) that’s basically going to stop you doing a ride - would just be useful to plan ahead and avoid clashes?

No. It’s one of the many things that’s been asked for, see my last request for it (and a search of the forums :stuck_out_tongue: )

Thank you Glen. I had tried searching for it on the forum (but obviously didn’t do a good enough job). I’m planning a KoS attempt for early June so really wanted to see view the calendar with other ‘real life’ stuff also shown!! Hopefully it will come at some point even if its not in time for my KoS…although that will be dependent on how well the training goes.

All good.

Forgive me if I missed the announcement or forgot, :older_man:t2:, but have you posted your menu du Suffering, your quest date etc somewhere. I’ll have to edit my calendar as well so I can mock…jeer…erm… support you on the day.

Yep. I started on Systm 2+ years ago and this and many other simple, logical, and straightforward improvements have been requested, with none getting implemented. Things as simple as being able to add notes to the calendar, or show both power and heart rate graphs in the workout player. During that time, RGT came and went as did the Sports Science Center, so now that those distractions are gone, I hope we’ll start seeing some basic improvements to Systm.

You didn’t miss it. I was planning on announcing it later this week. I have got the 10 rides I want to do in mind (including an order)…I’ve picked 10 that I have never done before, leaving me just 6 that I won’t have done (although may include some or all of these in the training). I’ve a couple of questions I’ll raise when I post my intention.

You’re absolutely right. Hopefully the minions can get some couchlandrians to get on with some coding. Having said all that, there have been some good new workouts added and I I find Systm still more appealing than Zwift.

Not likely, there are too many other conflicting priorities, and a limited amount of money.

Starting to add more calendar functionality would lead to more requests. I do not think Wahoo considers competing with existing calendar/training diary software a priority.

Put it another way, which would you rather have, more Sufferfest videos, or more calendar functions?

I understand that there is a limited amount of money (most of us individually and businesses have that to contain with everyday), and its evident in the cuts that Wahoo has made to RGT, Sports Science team that Wahoo is no different. I’ve also no doubt that Wahoo should/will be looking at the forum as a guide to what is being requested or not - I’d certainly hope that this is the case. Does Wahoo publicise a ‘roadmap’ for Systm - I’m aware that they do publicly talk about ‘hardware’ development although often in ‘clouded’ terms.
As to your specific comments, I wasn’t suggesting that Wahoo creates a competing calendar piece of software (e.g. to Outlook) - at its simplest, we all have our own calendars in Systm, just the ability to log other non-Systm events would be useful which I can’t imagine as hugely costly and neither would it be a significant diversion of resources from creating new Sufferfest videos which I know will take a great deal of time and cost to plan and execute. Fundamentally though, I don’t disagree that the workouts are the core to Systm.

With a bit background in software development I also see that some features, which look simple, are leading to quite an effort, when you have to do it for desktop, Android and iOS, with impact on backend services and data model.
For sure it must also be seen in context of other requests, like AppleTV support and ongoing maintenance work.
Let’s hope that there actually is a budget for new features and not only for maintenance.

I was not necessarily thinking of Outlook, rather Today’s Plan or Training Peaks.

Without knowing the exact code, you cannot say what is easy or hard to develop. I can tell you after decades in the software business, what looks easy from the outside is often hard to implement (and the reverse can also be true).

After it is developed, and tested, it has to be maintained. It is not a one shot event.

Probably the most important future action, is to modernize the workout player.

Unfortunately, with the departure of Sir Francois and Sirs David and Dylan before him, I think the likelihood of getting a new Sufferfest video is slimmer than whatever marginal gains Visma-Lease a Bike were hoping for with their new TT helmets :pinching_hand:

I def would prioritize a few workout player and calendar improvements that would apply to all workouts and plans rather than a few more workouts, especially no-vid workouts, of which I feel there shouldn’t be any.

I used to think think way, but as the stack of non-cycling stuff to listen or watch grew large this past year, and I’ve started using the no-vids to mindlessly drive my legs in ERG mode as I catch up. At any rate, they are pretty low effort to produce and they beat what Zwift or Indievelo have to offer.

There are already enough no-vid stuff I would say and personally sat on a trainer going nowhere (in my garage in my case), the vid stuff is more engaging, and at times incredibly educational - the main reason why I choose Systm over other bike apps. I’m sure I’m not alone in this and would be surprised if I was in a minority. Anyway, we’re in danger of migrating this thread off the original topic!!

Any and all workouts can be No-vid simply by turning off the vid in the workout player settings. You can continue as a No-vid or use the workout mini-player over some other content of your choice. If I wanted no vids, I’d have stuck with Trainerroad.

Maybe not for you, but the No-vids do supply a need for some of us.

??? Systm is your oyster as any vid can be a No-vid. Why do you care if a workout has a vid if you can so easily turn it off? They’re all No-vids if you turn the vid off.
