I noticed today that Core Straighteners III has changed from Advanced on the Sufferfest to Intermediate on Systm. Does @abicarver go easier on us now? The CS routines are the closest I’ve come to tapping out during SUF yoga sessions!
CSIII = DNF
This is music to my ears!
and people ask why I hate you? Am I the only one that sees the true evil?
Hey let’s do boat pose. That would be fun right? I mean who doesn’t like boats? But wait there’s more… instead of just regular old silly boat pose how about we do it this way, then that way, then this way, then that way, this way, that way, this, that…GAHHHHHHHHH. Fun times Abi, fuuuuun tiiiiiimes.
@Glen.Coutts Funny as boat pose is fine for me and I sort of enjoy it. I have actually been trying to add additional ab work a few times per week as it doesn’t really result in much fatigue and provides lots of other long range benefits both on and off the bike.
My nemesis is lizard pose. However, I recently did the Hip Flexor and Groin Recovery video and @abicarver shows a modification in that video where the foot isn’t completely flat - something that has been helpful to me. I still have trouble getting down on my elbows though most of the time due to tight hips. I am sure that this is common given that many of us sit in front of a computer for too many hours.
When I did CrossFit we had a similar stretch to lizard pose that was called frog step where the leg was in the same position but instead of coming down on both forearms the objective was to get one forearm close to the floor and perpendicular to the foot. I occasionally resort to that method on days when things are rough.
I love lizard pose. I usually can only get one forearm flat on the ground while the other hovers, but I love the way the stretch feels.
I expect Sir Glen will take my comment and replace “love” with “hate”, but I suspect he means the same thing.
Perhaps he can replace Straighteners with Strengtheners in the title, too
Hahaha. I actually like Lizard pose .
I can usually get both arms down provided the front foot is on its edge.
LOL!! Nah.
Are you thinking SYSTM should change the name of the workout to Core Straightners? I’m good with that.
@AkaPete and @titanicus the mere mention of Core makes me anxious and I pretty much tune out anything that follows it, a la Core blah blah blah
I would heartily recommend you pick up a couple of cheap yoga blocks. You will then be able to drop down onto your forearms or stay up on your palms if you prefer whilst maintaining good alignment. Pics in this recent article:
Tight hips / tight hips flexors / resultant back pain. Past nemeses of mine that still pay a visit when I ramp things up. This is spot on.
Thank you @abicarver
It is my pleasure. I hope that you find these poses to be effective.
Hmmmm, Corpse Pose hey? I’m pretty skilled at that one.
@abicarver Excellent and thanks. I have the blocks and will try the sequence.
Fantastic. I hope it makes a real difference.
