@AndyC Not sure where workout creator is on the roadmap but for now you can export workouts to your head unit and then have the head unit control the trainer. Then run one of the Open videos to record the session within SYSTM.
Edit: Found this older post that seems to indicate it is a focus for 2022
I would be satisfied with “custom” workouts in a way that i can just extend the existing one.
If i have a brevet of 200km and i plan to ride it for 10 hours, i would just like to be able to add an “Endurance” workout of 10 hours in length. But then again, i can add multiple shorter rides one after another, to sum it up to 10 hours
Oh yes, i would like to be able to add an “event” to calendar. No need for any specifics other than a label in the calendar which i can rename, so i can see when my event is.
Wahoo People! I would love to join and pay anything for your great service! HOWEVER, I require the option to import a workout built by my coach! I know you have lots of great workouts I’m sure, that being said I want to be able to use workouts already in my TP library built by myself or my coach! I don’t even need a video can just stare at the numbers! Why is this not available? Makes zero sense and is a shame! Yes I would also use many other features but ZERO reason to subscribe if I can’t utilize the workouts already prescribed to me! I don’t want online coaching or training. I am happy with the service in which I am already paying for, a certified coach! Please allow this import like so many others above have requested. Then I will join! I own and love many of your products and want to be all-in with the Wahoo EcoSystem. Needs to work in tandem with TP workouts BOTTOM LINE! Thank you for reading and for your consideration!!!
Why not join Zwift and build your own workouts there? Or some other training platform.
What does SYSTM offer you that you cannot do without, despite the missing feature of custom workouts?
Surely when you go to a restaurant, and you see their menu, you don’t go order something that they do not have, and insist they make it because they have a kitchen? You either go to a restaurant that has what you want, or you order what they have.
Why don’t you stay at the restaurant that gives you what you want, or, why haven’t you gone to another restaurant (metaphorically speaking)?
Help me understand your emphaticism with SYSTM having to give you what you want. The only reason I can gather is that you want everything in the same eco-system.
Thank you for taking the time to read my reply and for caring! My old coach suggested I use slope mode on my trainer. He would prescribe all of my intervals and I would painstakingly create them in TrainingPeaks. They would upload automatically to wahoo element and I would follow them on element and change slope and/or gears of trainer manually as needed to stay on point. I have a Tacx trainer so pay for their training app and this worked well in slope mode but they also do not allow import of workouts in ERG mode, I am following Element and changing parameters as needed. I have a new coach who is taking the time to construct all these workouts for me (significant upgrade for me and time saver), also in Training Peaks (reason for using consistent platform across all coaches) workouts are quite time consuming to build. It is ideal to create the workouts or have them created in the one platform such as Training Peaks as that is here to stay and integrates with many other platforms. Just trying to find the best platform for yet another membership that will except those created workouts (if Tacx did would be fine, although everything else is Wahoo and was excited to join their service and hoped would have been more forward thinking. I was thrilled when Element and then Bolt and then Roam came into market so I could get rid of Garmin. Since Garmin purchased Tacx, nothing has really changed, but I’d like to move to Wahoo platform for all and eventually ditch the Tacx Neo and even purchase Wahoo Bike! More importantly, or maybe not, on a day when I cannot ride outside and don’t need the structure of intervals it is nice to ride a course or a video. On the structured days would be ideal to use same platform, same premium membership to do the workouts in my library already created and customized for me and the library of videos and also features such as yoga, strength etc which I would use from SYSTM. I compete in road racing, mountain bike endurance racing and cyclocross racing. They are three completely different disciplines and my training is very specific, does not work with the one size fits all program. Currently I pay for the following premium memberships:
Training Peaks
Strava
Ridewithgps
Tacx real films (looking to replace this One with Wahoo). Have trial membership of Rouvy which is similar to Zwift with virtual racing which I’m not interested in at all, however, both companies do offer the import to of previously created Training Peaks workouts. I don’t love their user interface, as they require you to use workout over a video and makes metrics small and hand to read. Seems Wahoo is competing directly with those two platforms and since I need one of those for my goal to work would have preferred to give moe business to Wahoo as I love the company and their products and believe they are future and hope they can do it all for me. That all being said, unfortunately, I am a very picky eater and usually regardless of the restaurant I have to rewrite the menu to suit my needs . Just seems like a very simple request since there already is the interface with TrainingPeaks and the seemless flow of data through back-and-forth communication, to simply allow import, automatic or manual to allow to use existing workouts in ERG mode doesn’t seem would be a large ask. That’s all, will continue my search, unless this tiny but seemingly important feature for others as well can be implemented. Many of us cyclists are very particular and we in many regards. Many thanks again for reading and for your thoughts I appreciate it!
Will just add that I am in a similar to you, I used Zwift for the custom workouts it automatically downloads the days workout from trainingpeaks and puts it in training peaks folder automatically when you log in (so to clicks to use)
So basically it does what you are requesting Systm does, as Systm doesn’t support custom workouts of any kind yet (and passport has been coming for 6 months), I’m happy to pay the cheaper pricec and get the functionality that I require
And the workout player in Zwift is very good, especially if you use the companion app
Thanks for your comments glad I’m not alone. Let me ask you this please, when you use custom workout imported from TP into Zwift do you (1) In Zwift does it have ability to display your target and actual metrics without a video also playing? To basically see the numbers only?
(2) In Zwift can it show target cadence?
(3) In Zwift can you extend a workout and ride extra time for cool down etc? If not is it easy to simply select a free-ride mode or flat course for simple easy extra time added to same workout? Not a big deal to stop workout and start another ride so long as option is there for free ride or flat course etc to quickly and easily extend ride.
(4) what is companion app you refer to? iOS?
(5) what is the “passport” you referenced?
Many thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it! Seems Zwift may be preferable to Rouvy in interim until Wahoo can offer the workout import feature.
This is maybe not an answer but if you wish to use SYSTM, could you discuss with your coach to either select suitable SYSTM workouts or to try to “translate” existing workouts to SYSTM workouts?
Otherwise I agree with @Dan that it doesn’t really seem that you want to use SYSTM as it is designed, with all of its market differentiators.
Training Peaks is common denominator for all coaches. They not going to use a different platform for each client. I appreciate your and all opinions. Just hope the folks at Wahoo take everyone into consideration. Interval days with imported workouts on 1-2 times per week usually. Would use other features on platform for other reasons. Trying to decide which 4th membership to buy. Hoping one of the companies can one day do it all. Hoping Wahoo is that company.
Hey @E_Mo_D, RGT might work for what you are looking to do. You can link your TP account there and your scheduled workouts will appear and can be run from the app.
Plus I think you can do that with the free version of RGT as well so you can still subscribe to SYSTM. Or give it a solid 2 week trial.
I know it’s been said but I still think it would be worth showing your coach SYSTM and have them select some of the vid and no vid workouts as I’m certain there’s enough in there that would help to achieve whatever goals you’ve set out together. Not the stock training plans obviously but there’s some absolutely brilliant workouts in SYSTM that once completed will sync to TP so you can still keep all your data there.
Sir @Glen.Coutts is correct. RGT will cover your needs. Or just sync your coach workouts to your head unit via TPs or import it directly into your Wahoo Bolt and ride from that. It will control your Tacx unit and you don’t even need an app. Or do this, and run SYSTM and set it to record only, not control the trainer, to get a video on screen plus all your numbers overlaid. You just wont see any targets which sort of defeats the purpose of doing it this way.
Plenty of coaches I know are happy for their cyclists to ride SYSTM workouts. They just select the workout and tell the rider whether they need to adjust the power targets in the settings for a particular ride. Or they login to the person’s account and populate their calendar for them.
@DameLisa thank you appreciate your weighing in. This is exactly what I’ve been doing for past 3 years. Following planned workout from TP on Wahoo head unit but unfortunately it doesn’t control the Tacx. I have been using Tacx app in slope mode and adjusting gears and slope as needed to hit intervals. New coach wants me to use ERG mode so definitely need an app that can control trainer, show target numbers and actual numbers. Seems RGT is looking like the winner now. Going to try it out shortly. I do think it requires premium version but that’s fine. Can do 14 day trial. For sure will ask him about SYSTM. He uses Rouvy and recommended Rouvy. I was fine with it just numbers are super small and hard to see. Target on top of screen and actually and interval map on bottom with great video in between. Rather just see bigger numbers. Nothing against videos so long as I can see the numbers as well and they not compromised in size to enhance video which seems to be the case with Rouvy. Appreciate you and everyone else! Thanks for caring!
Another option is TrainerDay, they have a great little app, can pull workouts from TrainingPeaks, and is low cost due to fan driven content (and the plan builder is very interesting), workouts and editor that can export to garmin/training peaks/wahoo/intervals is free, application requires premiere membership whist 3.99 a month
