Emma Pooley

I suspect many of you have read this beautiful article: An exercise in pointlessness: Emma Pooley on her world-record Everesting.

Beautiful, because she describes the essence of suffering with a quote from Connie Carpenter-Phinney. Which reminds me of the TOS. Beautiful because it took her ten ascents, the same number as videos for a knighthood. Beautiful, because she described the importance of mental toughness to continue, when you think you cannot. Beautiful, because “because it’s there” is enough reason to try something and challenge yourself when there is a real possibility of failure. Makes me want to re-do my knighthood.

Her Instagram post yesterday was really cool- she wrote that she is grateful for the ability to “choose how to suffer because not everyone has that option”
