Having a devil of a time with my POWRLINK pedals

My latest warranty claim (due to a rapidly discharging battery) is apparently going to take some weeks to fulfill, as wahoo is waiting on new stock. I am cautiously optimistic this means that it will be a newly manufactured pair with functional batteries, whenever it does manage to arrive.

@Pff I was just about to submit my second claim. Did they make you ship back your old pedals first or are they letting you hold onto them until new pedals get in stock. I would hate to make a claim and then send back my pedals and be without pedals for a few weeks or months. At least the current ones are operational, I just have to charge them about three times more often than I should.

I will be without the pedals for an extended period of time, yes. I actually held onto the pedals that I had to charge every other day for a few extra weeks until my off season started. But I would have held onto them until the new stock arrived if I knew the replacements were out of stock. So doing that might be your best bet. Wahoo’s got excellent customer service (if not QA) and they’re letting me borrow some non power pedals until the new stock arrives.

That’s good to know. I’ll probably hold off for a little while. Awesome to hear about the good customer service.

I just purchased a 2nd set of PowrLink pedals (left hand power only) and its battery is acting the exact same way you describe here. I ended up getting 7 hours/4 rides of run time before it fully discharged. I am going to try charging them again to see if the 2nd time is any different.

I bought these from a retailer (not direct from Wahoo).

My first set of Wahoo pedals (bought directly from Wahoo) had great battery performance. But after about 15 months, the power readings stopped (RPM still worked). Fortunately, Wahoo is replacing them, but I am still waiting due to them being back-ordered. For the high price, I expected a lot more quality.

Gosh I am with the same problem. My left pedal charge only until 8% and the right is ok, but if I try to link with garmin or any other device the left pedal doesn’t connect (I guess this happens because the low battery charge ).

At long last I was issued a replacement pair from the new stock. That was only 5 days ago, so no long term review just yet, but so far so good. On the first day, one pedal (the right) would connect to the phone app but reported 0w when pedaling, but that pedal decided to snap out of it by the end of my trainer sesh. Since then there has been no dramatic drop in reported charge, and I took it for an outdoor ride and found it aligned perfectly with my quarq, as has done every other pair of these pedals which I have gotten briefly working. Which is maybe 4 or 5 pairs at this point? Here’s to hoping this one stays alive.

I started having issues with one of my pedals (sometimes left, sometimes right) dropping to zero watts mid-ride sometime last summer, a few months after purchase. After spending several months with Wahoo support trying different things that they suggested, and sending them multiple ride logs, they concluded that the pedals must be defective and wanted me to initiate a warranty claim. Unfortunately, I purchased them from eBay where they were listed as new, but Wahoo’s warranty policy is that they much be purchased from a retailer in order to be eligible for exchange.

Last year one of the pedals used to drop reporting power once per ride about 60% of the time. I found that if I stop my ride when I notice the power output drop to half of what I would expect, I can use the Wahoo app to recalibrate the pedals, and that would bring the dead pedal back to life (most of the time). Of course, this is really only possible on a solo ride. This year the drop-out frequency has increased to 2 to 3 times per ride, so they are becoming almost unusable.

Now after reading this thread, I’m wondering if these were a defective pair with the battery issue reported by many above, and someone sold them as new on eBay instead of returning them. I do see the left pedal typically charge to only 90% while the right charges to 100%, but I have not had any issues with pairing. Since I have no warranty (and nothing to lose), I may investigate trying to open them up and replace the battery if I can find something comparable.

My right side started losing charge after less than a year of use. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to doing something, a year had passed and REI wouldn’t replace. I’ve been waiting on a Wahoo replacement for 5 months now. I’m not hopeful to get them this cycling season at this rate. My LBS says they have a 100% failure rate. I loved speedplay and have always ridden them, but wahoo has destroyed a great brand.
