Good, that’s the reaction I was going for. Kidding aside, I actually chose workouts that I love and can relate to. This playlist evolved very naturally.
The question of intensity is a really good one. I need to see how on top of my game I will be when the time comes.
Sir Neal recommends starting in level mode and with less than 85%.
Since I will do a Full Frontal, followed by the knighthood prep plan, my numbers will be pretty accurate. I‘m thinking of starting with 75% actually. And it will be a miracle to hold it…
I need to practice to keep my ego in check, otherwise I will go down in a fiery blaze of glory.
@emacdoug: Ride along my attempt! Show me the way to the castle.
I started my first 3 at 80%, but since you’re starting with Cobbler, you may not want to do that. But if you’re in great shape (and May is certainly far enough away), then it’s possible! I did my Century ride on ISLTA at 85%.
My heart says “Yes!” but my knees and my family say “No!” haha. But, that’s very tempting. I did do my KOS attempt with Holger, but not exactly simultaneously and with different playlists.
Totally doable. Could stream the whole thing or could host it via Google Meet or similar, share the link and people can just drop in. I’ll read and see exactly what you’re trying to do for your KOS
That would definitely work. I was just trying to figure out the time zone difference. Based on Berlin time, you would be starting at midnight my time. lol. I don’t know if Germany has more than one time zone? But anyway, I usually get up and ride at 5 or 6am which would right in the middle of your attempt, so I could easily drop in for a stage or two in the middle.
Ok guest stages are doable but trust me, you don’t want to be adding to your mental load in your 10 min breaks. By vid 6 it’s enough of a battle trying to pee, eat, cue next vid, replace bottles and try remember to post to the Suff page.
Obviously you can live stream each one direct like Hobart did during ToS. But where it becomes a pain is viewers sticking around for more than 1 video have to then scramble to find your next post.
How about doing an OBS/Twitch live stream which allows for chat. I BET there’s a way to embed it. There’s definitely a way to make messages pop up for you from multiple platforms overlaid on your Suff App so you still get the full experience then you can reply verbally if you want.
If you want to “meet” and ride with folks, you can run it over Google Meet. I don’t think there’s a time limit there.
Discord is also a very viable option.
But people will ride with you either way maybe.
Can play with some setups and see what suits. You have time with a May KoS locked in.
How about we set up a Zoom/GoogleMeet in the next few days and try talk through the options. @DancingCyclist knows more about this stuff than me. Can also set up a Discord Server to play with. Lots of options. We’ll make it work!
Yeah, I understand completely. Whatever the result will be, it needs to work without much hassle.
Having said that: I like the direction this whole plan is going.
Give me a few days to understand all the technical aspects and possibilities myself and then I would absolutely love to chat and compare notes.
I will run my Sony cam through OBS to a virtual camera.
OBS pushes everything to StreamYard.
StreamYard will actually be my “control room”
This allows me to set everything up from the computer but manage the comments and guests easily on my phone next to the bike.
Guests will get a StreamYard access link - no registration necessary.
My secondary phone will link in as a “guest” to create some B-Roll.
Everything get’s pushed to Facebook/YouTube/Twitch and I don’t care about the recording and streaming limits.
I’ll do a test run in a few days / weeks.
Thanks @Martin, @DameLisa and @DancingCyclist for offering technical support.
Maybe you can help out during the test run? That would be awesome. I’ll PM you soon-ish.
Now I can spend some creative thoughts on “decorating” my OBS Window and how to provide legal background music.
Technical spam in this thread is now over - I promise. If I need more, I’ll create a topic…
But maybe it will be useful for somebody else.
I wanted to vouch for “Butter”. It is a favorite of mine and I had it at 7, and was not disappointed. I had trouble with sharp changes in power/cadence as the quest went on, and the predictable nature of the intervals of Butter was just what the doctor order. And seeing the smiley face made of butter melt in the pan is always joyful.
hello oh wise knightly ones. what’s the consensus about pausing for a few seconds mid vid to catch your breath, regain clear vision, or shake out a cramp? does one get disqualified for that?
There isn’t a hard and fast rule on pausing mid-vid. But, if you’re doing your knighthood attempt, you will be doing reduced intensity on all your videos (If you can get through more than 1 video on 100% intensity then your 4DP numbers are seriously wrong) and honestly, that shouldn’t need to happen. If you’re getting tired or dizzy or need a break, you can always dial down the intensity even more. And if you need to catch your breath or shake something out, just put it in level mode and slow down or spin it out as easily as you need. There’s likely no need to pause a video. Plus, you get up to 10 minutes in between, so you’ll get breaks. If you do get a pain that’s more than just soreness or injure yourself, there’s no shame in re-attempting at another day. Better to stop early and re-attempt than to push through an injury and be forced off your bike for who knows how long.
Tomorrow’s the day. My bike’s ready, my food’s ready, and I’ve downloaded an entire season of ‘The Expanse.’
I’m raising money for Friends of Troop 3 Newport, which ensures that cost isn’t a barrier to the Scouting experience on my island. I’d appreciate it if you’d consider kicking in a few bones through the fundraising link on either the FB Sufferlandria page or the Knighthood Quest Planning Committee page.
Here’s the menu. My biggest challenge will be overcoming my ADD, so I skewed toward shorter videos. There are some longer ones, however, that I couldn’t resist.
