Let’s see your pain cave

Landry’s in Mass? I got my trainer there, and I was very happy with their service.

Yes! I go to the one in Newton primarily. Great service. We’re looking forward to group rides hopefully this summer. :pray:t3:

This my Pain Cave. I recently bought the new Kickr, it’s worth every penny!!! The new 60" is also a great feature, not to mention the Heady Topper beer after finishing the tour!

Today was moving day. I spend the better half of the day carrying everything from the garage into the basement. It will serve as my new pain cave and office.

Still needs a lot of paint, decorations and proper furniture, but the most important stuff is here now.

@Chip Hawkins: There is enough space for a Wahoo Treadmill!!

My bike changes the room along with my little girl growing up, but finally founds its place since last spring

Suff hive-mind. A boring equipment question. Recently upgraded my pain cave to a Kickr Core and Climb. I need to complete the transformation with a nice screen in my little corner of suffering. So, computer monitor or actual TV? Which to choose? 4k, 2k or Full HD? Anyone recently set themselves up and happy? I have roughly 40cmx70cm (15.7"x27.6") screen space to play with in front of me, and I’ll need to mount on a floor stand or tripod to move it around now and then. I run SUF on an iPad rather than laptop, for touch screen convenience for controlling. So, I guess I’ll just be running a lightening to HDMI adaptor to the screen, which may give aspect ratio issues, but hey. So, any recommendations/pearls of wisdom?

@djrevill I have an old Panasonic plasma on the wall. I connect an iPad with a lightning to HDMI adapter and it works great. Either TV or monitor should work fine.

I’m moving house soon, and have been given the ok to purchase a pain cave for the garden. I’m thinking that it will contain x2 bikes (for me + GF) on turbos, treadmill, rowing machine, place for stretching and some core work / TRX. We are close to to the gym for heavy weights so don’t need loads in there, but will need to house 5 bikes in total (upright on racks).

What do people in the UK recommend? Has anyone (UK based) had anything constructed similarly? Any ideas for costs etc? I will need to get a base built, obviously need power out to it. Should I get insulation for it? Also, regarding security, do people do for security - chain their bikes to the floor when in the shed? I don’t want to get the place robbed of all the gear…

Whereabouts in the UK are you based, the level of security you need will depend on how determined your local bike thieves are? In most English cities the only effective deterrents are also illegal (automated pepper sprays and wiring the bike up to the mains to electrocute potential thieves), whereas in Northern Scotland you could leave a ££££ bike unlocked outside a town centre supermarket and it would still be there when you finished shopping.

If you are starting from scratch and getting a concrete slab cast, I’d recommend getting a ground anchor cast in like this
Sub Major Ground Anchor, Ground Anchors, SubMajor from SecurityForBikes, by Pragmasis

Spec shutters for the windows so that thieves can’t see what is inside or break the glass to gain entry.

Unless you want your pain cave to double up as a sauna you won’t need any insulation. Mine is in a detached double garage and I still need a fan to keep me cool when it is below zero with the doors open. It easier to put on extra layers to keep warm than try and cool down.

Doesn’t need a fan in Winter.
