Mike Cotty will never replace Sufferfest

I too am worried, and have been “away” for some time. Decided to come back for the next year at a reduced fee, but if the de-SUFing is not stopped, and some re-SUFing is undertaken, this will be my last subscription renewal.

Although I like Mike, he alone cannot keep me on the platform, I need something more.

I’d advise everyone to start looking at other options. Wahoo is a hardware company. This software will go when they need to cut some costs. Its value is far below others. If you want a training plan, just go to ChatGPT and it’ll write you whatever you want. AND if you give feedback, it’ll modify it as you need. DM me if you want my prompt

If Wahoo does away with this software, most likely my indoor training will go away as well as I can not just sit and spin staring at a “plan” or profile. I honestly don’t know how you all that do that, do that but I’m sure it works for some. I need something to keep me engaged and motivated and staring at a blank screen with just a profile and listening to the trainer is neither. For instance, when I do Half Monty, it plays on the PC while I watch and listen to the Full Frontal video on my iPhone and when I finally get around to doing the No-Vid time-crunched version of Who Dares, I’ll watch and listen to the actual Who Dares on my iPhone. I’ve tried Zwift’s plans and they bore the heck out of me. I don’t know why but it feels like it takes FOREVER to complete an hour long workout on Zwift as opposed to an hour long workout on SYSTM. Just my two cents worth.

When I’m using Trainer Road I run the workout player in split screen with YouTube on my iPad and catch up with videos from the channels I subscribe to. Makes the time pass remarkably quickly even if, as tonight, I’m doing a 90 mins Zone 2 ride.

I don’t think Wahoo is trying to replace The Sufferfest with Mike Cotty. Yes, Wahoo is still creating new On Location workouts. But from the previous communications, some of these are either stop-gap measures while Wahoo tries to either get new licensing or the time to remaster the Sufferfest workouts in a better fashion using the feedback users have provided.

I definitely don’t expect the new videos be the same as the original Sufferfest videos. Not in the slightest. The old SUF crew is gone and the spirit in the room has changed. But, The Sufferfest is still alive, even if in critical condition.

I think the SYSTM app is going to be merged into the Wahoo app at some point in the future, but the workouts are still going to be there, as far as I can tell from the communications we have received from Wahoo. And while On Location are the easiest thing for Wahoo to produce at this point, the Sufferfest videos are not all disappearing, and there is hope and communication about the old ones being re-remastered.

It’s not going to be exactly the same as what Sufferfest used to be. We can’t and shouldn’t expect that. But The Sufferfest isn’t disappearing in the near future. Will it last forever? No. And nothing lasts forever. But it’s not going away soon™. I have some alternatives that I will used along side SYSTM. But SYSTM and The Sufferfest is still my goto app for my indoor cycling training because it’s still here and it still works and 4DP is still better than most of the FTP-only training programs out there (IMO).

But I certainly understand the disenchantment (I have a lot of that too) with the disappearance and remastering of many beloved Sufferfest videos. I have some hope, but I do have that tempered with the reality and communications we’ve been presented with. In the end, everybody needs to do what works with them and not everyone is okay with what The Sufferfest has become (and there’s nothing wrong that) since it is a shadow of its former self.

Friday I did a long endurance ride in Training Peaks Virtual. I did the Knight Ride in Zwift on Saturday. I did SYSTM strength and a recovery spin in SYSTM on Monday. Tuesday I did a climbing simulation in Zwift. Today I had a rest day and tomorrow I will be back doing The Chores in SYSTM. We can make the most of what we have and use all the tools that are available that make us fitter and better and healthier humans.

No country, mythical or otherwise, stays stagnant. We either evolve or die.

Awesome Sir… yes indeed, the Spirit of Sufferlandria still resides within us!

We need to support the minions in whatever they’re getting up to down in the mines. I’m sure they will surface with the courage and the answers we seek.

I really hope this is the case. They have less than one year to prove it. If not, this is and will always continue to be empty promises.

Maybe someone has to discover an even more mythical Nation, with a promise of even greater suffering than that of Sufferlandria…?

I feel that there is a place for both On Location workouts and Sufferfest. I do not agree that Mike’s contributions should be seen as trying to replace Sufferfest. His workouts have their own niche within Wahoo, and are entertaining in their own way.
