We’re thrilled to introduce a brand-new workout that takes things up a notch — SBT GRVL’s Wahooligan Pass ! This session is built a little differently from our usual rides, blending realistic terrain dynamics with a focus on rhythm, pacing, and control.
About the Workout:
Tackle a 10-mile stretch inspired by the SBT GRVL course over Wahooligan Pass. You’ll take on punchy climbs, rolling terrain, and flowing descents while maintaining strong tempo-to-sub-threshold efforts (80–95% FTP). Smooth pacing, steady breathing, and smart recovery are the keys to conquering this ride.
I keep hoping you’ll come up with the goods in the manner we’ve been Suffing expecting, but no. I’m trying so hard to keep my spirits up, but stuff like this shows you do not care.
The title of this workout is exactly what I’ll do… pass.
What’s wrong with this company? After all the discussions about the use of the completely inappropriate “Hooligan” branding you release a workout with this name. Disgusting!
By the way; this branding was the main reason that I didn’t even consider a Wahoo product when my headunit (Wahoo Elemnt Bold) had to be replaced a couple of weeks ago.
Yes I ll give it try too. It has music which I do find important.
Although I am not very enthusiastic about the name Wahooligan either, the crusade against it from some of our fellow countrymen also is a bit of a first-world problem.
I second what @Thisdale said. It looks fun. Thank you for the new workout Rupert. Looking forward to giving this one a try….maybe even today….but after The Wretched yesterday, my legs may be wrecked today …..
I completed this new workout this morning. I liked it and can see it being used as a longer active-recovery ride. I can also see me using this as a higher intensity workout at times by increasing the FTP percentage up to my HM FTP number. I will say that it was a bit odd not hearing The rider/host talk (which I was expecting) and it would have been nice to hear the sound of the gravel under the tires along with the music….any possibility of adding that Rupert? My heart rate stayed in low Z2 except for one stint in High Z2 and one stint in Low Z3 after a standing interval. All in all, well done on this one Rupert and anyone else involved with it.
Does it make me want to register for SBT? The scenery is beautiful and it looks like a great event, but I won’t fly halfway across the planet for it. But it sure makes me want to try local gravel “races”.
I second Sir Eric’s request, if you have the ambient sound, please add it, we cannot have the smell (yet ), but ambient sounds play a big role in that kind of rides.
Good job with the text inserts, there’s enough time for me to read them (unlike Clobber)
In the end, not very engaging (but it’s a tempo workout, you can’t do miracles), music is meeeh, but it looks nice. Not sure how I feel about it - I guess we’ll see next time if it gets better or worse
I think there is a space for more meditative videos like this one (calm music, little story line - though agree ambient sound would add to it). Sometimes that’s just what I need, and On Location and (nearly all) Inspiration videos have talking or story to engage with.
So I’d say keep having a handful of calm workouts like this - but I’d describe them intentionally as different from standard inspiration (and certainly on location) videos.
