No joy in the new Joyride

Joyride has always been my go-to 30 minute interval workout. Probably ride it 30+ times a year, usually when I’m short on time. Bang for the buck, etc. There is comfort in familiar and the challenge is always there, especially when you up the settings (115% is my best).

Short window today before work…so Joyride is the obvious choice. And then…the ominous “Update” bar. :skull:

While the guts of the workout is the same, the entire theme is changed. The title no longer fits. Most of the music is different. Gone: Peter Sagan waving at the camera, bodies hitting the floor on cobbles, and of course the win.

Replaced by the blandest of Swiss time trials.. zzzzzz.

Also remaining: typos (contractions vs. the possessive “s” seems to be hard for them) and one of the warm up intervals is not synced with the screen.

Just venting that I will really miss the old Joyride. I wish it were available as a classic version but if this is because of licensing, I guess there’s no chance.

Anyone else feeling the distinct lack of joy over this one?

This is on the long list of remasters that The Company has said had to be been done quickly due to licensing issues.

It’s one of the more recent ones but if you head to this thread, you’ll see they’re seeking feedback from us.

Thank you very much for graciously redirecting my post to the appropriate thread.

I am curious about the end of the licensing agreement causing this. Is this truly unexpected or is a cost cutting measure by Wahoo to discontinue payment of licensing fees?

Go read my last post in that thread

Thank you!

Of course, and no need to read that entire thread (it’s a bit beefy), but the gist of it is, we are time constrained on remastering, but are developing a long-term plan to reremaster (Glen’s favorite term), but that will not be a fast process given the volume of content.

Somebody stole my term. I believe I first used it when the remastering started and I posted this….

“Since Wahoo is remastering our beloved SUF workouts, can they reremaster the remasters and get rid of that stupid laser goat at the end of the SUF workouts?”

Or maybe I didn’t. Maybe I just said “remaster the remasters”. Either way, that laser goat HAS TO GO and my enthusiasm to come home from work and grind it out to Power Station and turn myself inside out trying to stay with the lead group in Thin Air is sadly gone. The motivation that they was brought with Thibaut Pinot chasing Nibali up the first 3 minute climb in Power Station and trying to stay with Nibalis “Guppy” in the final minutes of Thin Air is gone.

Didn’t mean to hijiack your No Joy in Joyride (nope, there’s not) post Sir. I just went off on a tangent here.

On the other hand, at least they aren’t No-Vids!!!:face_vomiting::face_vomiting:

I’ll now disappear for another week or so. Cheers🍻!

The OG Joyride is one of the videos that make me smile before I start the video, because I’d do them during lunch break and the whole theme fits perfectly.

After your comment I’m honestly worried, even before trying the new one. I’d like to think I’m a patient man, but the more I think about it, the less inclined I am to support these shenanigans. With or without customer feedback, Wahootasticooligans would have to pull a Hail Mary to return Sufferfest to previous Glory. Thin slice of patience is hoping I’m wrong /vent off

@Luka Well, the new JoyRide is nothing but ITT footage in every interval. No cobbles, no fighting for position, no crashes, no director yelling in your ear to “FINISH IT!”. Just ITT footage in every interval. I thought they had kept the original music for each interval but from what I’ve been reading from others they didn’t. But, again, at least it’s not a no-vid which apparently was an option that was being batted around for all of the SUF videos. That would have been truly horrible IMHO.

Simply i just canceled my subscription, no sufferfest no users

@Msarcosv I’m going down with the ship, at least for a while. As disappointing as all of this remastering is, I’m not ready to cancel my subscription just yet. As dull and not anywhere close as engaging as the new footage is, (Sorry @Rupert and who ever else was tasked with the remastering), it’s still better than no-vids. I figure we will know by the first of the year if Wahoo is truly serious about reremastering the dull remasters. I honestly don’t understand what the big secret is about the unexpected end to the licensing of the original footage but it’s been made clear that it won’t be divulged, even to their current paying customers, so all we can do is be at the mercy of Wahoo and hopefully move forward. Hopefully within the next six months they start to turn this around.

Exactly this Sir Eric. I am not building my hopes up though.

I am dreading what some of the classics are going to look like post-remaster. Knowing the likes of Recharger, Butter, The Trick, Cobbler, etc. are all going to be ‘Wahoo’ed’ fills me with dread.

There appears to have been almost zero investment in Systm in the last 2 years and it is become a very stale platform now.

To be positive at least they haven’t treated Systm in quite the same way as RGT which just left you wondering why on earth they bought RGT in the first place!

Just did it this morning as part of the July challenge. It has gone from one of my favourite videos to one I probably won’t do again. Whilst the decent workout and timeframe remain the same, it was a fav because of the immersive race footage and Dylan’s commentary as the DS. Always made me smile whilst grimacing from the workout. Disappointing.

When I saw they made NoJoyride a July Challenge, I thought, yeah they really don’t get it.

Wow. Maybe Wahoo couldn’t attract new users… but at least they’re good at driving away the old ones!
Joyride was one of my all-time favorites and the first one I ever did on The Sufferfest. It was the perfect short SUF workout to show my friends.

Another ex-Joyride fan here as well.

It was my go to final pre-event workout. Short but a hard test. I’d know I was in a good place before the event if I could nail the intervals.

Loved Dylan’s DS voiceover. “He knows what the EF he’s doing” and “here comes the bouncy castle” but did he shout “Bungee!” or something like that at one point in it?

{Edit}

I think it might be “Punch it!!!” for the last sprint. Maybe. Possibly…
