No Place Like Home

Let’s talk about No Place Like Home, specially HR during the first three interval “builds”, which I have circled in green in the photo. During the first build, my HR gets to the upper Zone 2 range but still a ways from Zone 3. During the second build, my HR gets to the low Zone 3 but far away from Zone 4. During the third and final build, my HR gets to the upper range of Zone 3 and begins to tickle Zone 4 which is due to the higher power progression and 100+rpm progression throughout the interval. After those three intervals, my HR doesn’t get close to Zone 4 until the last sprint. I know HR values are specific to each individual but are the zones that I experience in those first three progressive intervals about on par for everyone else who had done NPLH? Just curious what everyone’s else’s take is on it.

Looking back at the two times I’ve done that particular workout, my results are similar; I would barely reach into Zone four hr, on the third ramp, and each interval after I would just about barely touch it again.

Interestingly, the first time I did it (4-20-24), my peak and average HR was lower than last September, even though FTP setting was a good 20w higher.

4-20-34

9-18-24

Much after that when I do a Sufferefest workout I would turn off HR display, since half the time it drops out anyways, and I get too focused on it matching the target zone, to the detriment of my power.

I have done No Place Like Home four times, and that is my general experience.

Same here. HR raises throughout the builds but doesn’t get as high in any of the remaining intervals (which are just too short to get to a higher HR).

Rep 1 - just getting into Zone 3; Rep 2 - Zone 4 - Rep 3 - top end Zone 4; The last 4 reps aren’t long enough for the HR to reflect the effort but go low end zone 4, low end zone 4; top end 2; top end 2.

I notice this consistently as well. My HR is usually about 10rpm below required for a long time.

This might be due to my low FTP but high VO2Max however. Are you in a similar situation?

Note: im trying to train and raise my FTP, but the app classified me as a attacker with high AC and MAP and very low FTP.

Just made my return to suffering after an end of season two week break to couchlandria. Could only be one workout, and it didn’t disappoint, this is such a good video, tunes are awesome, footage is great. Love the bit with the Dutch riders on the beach. It did exactly what it promises and I now feel fired up and ready to throw myself into training.

There really is no place like home.

Was also my first workout back, always used to be Recharger but I guess it visited Couchlandria as well for a few months.
