Power variations during ride using Wahoo app and Wahoo Powermatch

Hey all -

Does anyone here use the Wahoo app in erg mode connected via Bluetooth with a power meter connected via ANT+, and the toggle “on” so that the power meter controls the trainer?

In the past, I have had pretty success with this setup being accurate and consistent, but lately I’ve been seeing some pretty big variations.

Below is an image from today, zoomed in on a 10-minute interval. For this interval, Erg was set to 290W, but the power seems to be all over the place. I know some variation is expected but is this amount normal? The avg for the interval ended at 279W despite the target of 290W in Erg. Using a SRAM crank-based power meter and a Wahoo Kickr V5 FWIW.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

If I have this right in my head then the trainer’s having to do an awful lot of work to respond to slight fluctuations in your power output when an external power meter is being used. I might be special, but I find it very hard to ride at a constant power for any length of time. I know you said you’ve had success with this setup in the past, but when using ERG mode it makes more sense to have the trainer control power as you then just have to concentrate on keeping a constant cadence. Level mode should be fine either way.
