Is there a solution for the colors in the map ? I ride a lot offroad and a lot of different types of roads are displayed in grey colors. Whilst you’re riding in forests, they are very hard to see. An additional problem is that the if you leave the loaded route, the color of this track is also grey. You don’t see where the track is in a lot of areas because it has the same colour as the roads. I hope there is a solution. Otherwise i’ll have to switch to another brand
Dear Wahoo Team,
I’m boosting this question. This is quite annoying issue and not only for me. My friend has just bought a new Hammerhead Karoo because of these colours.
You can’t navigate on gravel rides when you cycle through woods because you can’t see any paths.
Is there any possibility to change colours of the paths? Grey lines in the green fields on a map are not visible while riding.
Have a great day!
Damian
I have the exact same problem and so does my friend, who just bought the same computer. We are so frustrated. It is useless as it is and I regret buying it.
I have the exact same problem. When I miss my turn, the Wahoo calculates an alternate route in blue to get me back to my original route which I cannot see anymore because the original route went from black to gray and blends with the surroundings, very very annoying!
I cannot see where I was and not where I want to be, only the blue chevrons.
This problem seems to persist since the beginning, look at this guys review from 2023-14-01, he already criticized this: https://youtu.be/WSpj0TLblCs?t=592
The main reason why I chose the ROAM V2 instead of the Karoo which has superior display of the route was the quick rerouting and the longer battery life, but I now regret it.
In its main job, to show me very clearly where I am and where I have to go the Wahoo sucks.
Wahoo also claims that the ROAM V2 has a built in compass. I cannot confirm that. When you change direction, the map changes its rotation very late. When you are outside in the open it is mostly not a problem. But when you navigate in situations like in smaller cities and situations where multiple streets cross here in Germany, I often am confused because the map does not rotate or rotate extremely late. 3 weeks ago I took a route through a medieval city in Germany and I got completely lost because when I was in the center of the city with lots of small, curved roads and small areas I could not navigate with the Wahoo because the map did not rotate and I did not know where to head. I had to switch to Komoot on my iPhone in that situation!
I switched to the Wahoo ROAM V2 from Komoot on my iPhone which worked perfectly and did not have any of the problems I described.
I am very disappointed with the Wahoo and think about selling it
Greetings from Germany, Janni
I can understand your frustration with the missing original route, when the wahoo reroutes. I do have the ELEMT BOLT V2 and observe some of the similar issues. Nevertheless I was super happy to get rerouted in cities on Mallorca even when I missed one or the other turn, I was still able to find a way out.
There was an article in the c’t magazine 2022/26 how to adjust the presentation of maps and the elements. Unfortunately it is not for free, so I cannot share the article here. The sources from the c’t article can be accessed through ct.de/yc22.
Personally I adjusted the presentation on my BOLT V2 so that gravel roads are not gray anymore (like the planned route). Also railways and cities can be recognized much better.
Good luck
Tom
Hello Tomi, thank you very much for the information!
You can test ct for 2 editions and get access to the archives as I could see now.
I had a look at the sources, this is quite complicated stuff and I fear of accidentally damaging the Wahoo ROAM V2 by tinkering around with the tools in GitHub.
But maybe there is another solution. Yesterday I saw a video of GPSRadler on Youtube in which he presented the BOLT and ROAM V3 which will appear beginning of May! The video has today disappeared from his youtube channel, so maybe he posted it too early?
But they seem to have the exact features of the Wahoo ACE minus the wind sensor which I do not care about. Also they do not have the LEDs anymore which I also do not really need.
I am using the vertical LEDs on my ROAM V2 to show the status of my Varia RTL 516 radar, but this can also be done without the LEDs inside the main display.
When I understood it correct, the BOLT/ROAM V3 will not have the problem with disappearing original routes when rerouting, you can see the blue chevrons with the rerouting and the black chevrons of your original route in parallel as I have seen in reviews of the Wahoo ACE.
Also there is no need for the horizontal LEDs because you now have audio guidance (turn left, turn right, …) which I like much more.
The new displays have much more colors instead of only 64, so you get more and better coloring. Especially the use of the color blue on the ROAM V2 is driving me crazy. For me blue is water/river, … On the ROAM V2 blue is bike lanes and some other stuff which really confuses me.
It may sound silly to some, but I love the bicycle bell integrated into the BOLT/ROAM V3. I have two bells at my bike but they are terrible, I can put them away, then
On the ACE the map rotation seems to be more fluid and precise, …
The ROAM V3 will have 25 hours of battery instead of 16 on the ROAM V2 which is great because this year I am planning to do multiple bike events with 200 to 300kms per day and that should work pretty fine with 25 hours of battery.
So I will probably sell my ROAM V2 this month and buy the ROAM V3 next month

Hi Janni
Thanks for the hint about the c’t magazine.
You are right that the stuff is not so easy to execute. The easiest way is to use the theme here with step-by-step instructions. Worst that can happen is, that the theme will not be picked up by your wahoo.
Nevertheless it is a good plan to switch to a device which better suits your expectations.
Cheers
Tomi
Thanks for the theme, Tomi, but I pushed through with my original thought of switching devices
I saw that the ROAM V3 will cost 450€ when it releases in May on enjoyyourbike.com.
Then I saw that the same dealer offers the Wahoo Ace for 525€ (instead of 599€), which is “only” 75€ more expensive than the ROAM V3 and so I ordered the Wahoo Ace
I like the big size of the Ace and don’t mind the bigger weight, my 51 year old eyes like big displays a lot
525€ is still a huge amount of money. But I hope that the Wahoo Ace will fit all my needs and the Ace/BOLT/ROAM V3 will be the most current WAHOO devices for the coming years, so I should be set
Once the Ace is here and I tested it thoroughly, I will sell my ROAM V2 and be hopefully able to recoup some money and make the investment into the Ace less painful.
Greetings Janni
Ok, today I mounted the Wahoo Ace and the Wahoo Roam V2 next to each other on my bike and tested the Ace and its differences to the Roam V2.
The problems that I had with the Roam 2 are fixed in the Ace!
I did a 59km tour in about 5 hours and I can say that the map rotation works much better in the Ace, very nice!
Also the problem that the planned tour disappears on the Roam 2 after rerouting does not happen on the Ace, you can see both!
What I really like is the audio guidance instead of beep signals, that is really helpful and allows you to concentrate on the road and not having to look down on the device so often. The audio guidances are very short. “left turn ahead”, “turn left”, very short and precise.
The integrated bell is not really helpful. You have to tap on a small area on the device to make the bell ring, that is not feasible for me while driving. I have to lift my left or right hand and tap on a small area on the device, that is too dangerous
I will continue testing the Ace and put the results on my blog, here: https://ikarios.wordpress.com
There seem to be still bugs in the Wahoo app.
Greetings, Janni
