Sim mode workouts?

Because the resistance changes with the gradient, your speed and weight automatically.

Ahh, that makes sense. Sorry me being dense. Yes, the resistance you feel would change but regardless of how many watts you push out the video would carry on at the same speed.

Thank you!

No; video at the same speed regardless of watts is what we have now. Currently we overlay a fixed workout based on your own power profile and you either hit the targets or not, the vid doesn’t care, and if in erg mode it’ll hold you to your power target regardless of cadence and you can’t go harder/faster.

In SIM mode, you ride a course, and the video scrolls proportional to your effort. Put out fewer watts, you go slower through the course/video. The trainer simulates gradient and it’s up to you how many watts and what cadence you push through, using your gears as you would on o normal rise outside. On a simulated climb, it’ll feel like x%, but how fast you ride up it depends on you. Like in the real world. You can therefore ride a simulated course slowly one day, and smash it another day, set PBs, etc.

@Rydercon has it right. Sim mode is similar to Erg in that the resistance of the trainer changes automatically. But it is to simulate a gradient rather than force you to hold a specific power output no matter what. You then change gears and decide whether you ride up that hill at 100 watts. Or 500 watts. It’s sort of like auto adjuating level mode. It’s wildly different to Erg mode. It’s how Zwift/RGT works when you’re in a race or free riding a course.

Yes, I understand that, I was talking about the Fulgaz “Steady Mode” where the on-screen speed doesn’t change regardless of how many watts you put out.

Ah yes, missed that bit. I haven’t ridden Fulgaz in forever but I do remember that setting. I guess also like Zwift’s sticky group ride setup as well. Definitely much more like a Pro Ride or On Location.

Yes, I guess like an on-location in level mode but instead of just staying in (say) “1” for the whole ride the level gradient (0-9) would automagically change to match what’s happening in the video.

Agree that this would be a great addition to SYSTM. I generally prefer what SYSTM offers but there are occasions when I want to simulate a real ride either for the training benefit or more likely to get a feel indoors for the type of ride I can’t easily do locally but I want so practice on eg. Big mountain climb. It would be really nice if they were to add a dozen or so really well produced Sim rides. It would reduce the temptation to head off for a month on Fulgaz, Rouvy or Zwift where there is always I risk a rider might stay rather than return. It would fit quite nicely into the SYSTM package although the underlying technology would be major change compared to everything else.

I’m not sure it would be that big a change. They already mimic a pro rider’s power profile for the pro-rides and tailor it to our own unique power profiles so I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t do it for a pro rider, or any rider, or a group of riders going up a hill.

I’d be surprised actually, if they aren’t already working on this.

Edit: so it wouldn’t be a Sim like Zwift, Rouvy etc but it would be a way to do what you’re suggesting (sort of  )

I’m sure most know the following, but FWIW:

“Level Mode” means the trainer behaves like a dumb trainer where resistance rises with “wheel” speed. The selectable levels set how fast resistance rises with speed. Once you select a level, to get more resistance you shift to a higher gear. Shift to a lower gear for less resistance.

“Slope mode” means the resistance of the trainer is controlled as a function virtual slope (grade). Resistance goes up as slope goes up, and vice versa, so you shift accordingly as you would riding up and down actual grades outside. This is what is used in ZWIFT, Rouvym and other apps where you’re riding along on varied terrain.

“ERG mode” means the trainer controls and varies resistance to maintain a set power level irrespective of cadence.

For some rides, it would be a real incentive to be able to go harder to get the whole thing over quicker

Plus, GvA would be happy with the concept of segments taking longer if you’re not trying hard enough!
