So Long, SYSTM (for Now!)

Hey Wahooligans,

Just thought to make a quick post to say bye and explain why for whoever cares to know. I won’t be renewing my Wahoo SYSTM subscription here soon—not because of any grand protest against the supposed subversion of proper Suffering or deep-seated anti-Wahooligan sentiment (seriously, the amount of time wasted complaining about the use of that trivial term still baffles me).

I’ve just decided to work with a coach who won’t be using SYSTM, so keeping the subscription would be like paying for a gym I never go to. I’m at the point where I’ve realized I have no idea really how to train efficiently and am OK with having someone come along dude me for guidance on it, among other things.

The data nerd in me loves the deep dive into metrics available on TrainingPeaks and TrainingPeaks Virtual has been not only a fun addition to my training but a great way to get some of the zest for competition out with the racing you can do on it. So, for now, that’s where I’ll be spending my virtual sweat equity.

Still, I’m not out of the Wahoo world—unless my second Kickr Bike Shift decides to betray me as its predecessor did. Fingers crossed it stays loyal.

Live long and suffer!

Let us know how your training with a coach is going for you Sir.

Thanks, I will. I’m sorta bummed cause I sincerely love the app. I find even the workouts post Wahoo-acquisition just fine. High Time comes to mind as one off the top of my head that is quite engaging in several ways. Maybe it’s just a me thing? :face_savoring_food:

I have tried Training Peaks Virtual, but it always crashes the hardware on my computer. I gather you have been successful.

I have a 2023 MacBook Air.

I am using a Windows machine, it crashes my hardware before I can even use it for a virtual ride. It does not crash my iPhone, but I have not tried a virtual ride.

I have an old Windows 10 machine and TPV runs fine for me on it with the graphics set to lower quality.

I tried setting the graphics to lower quality and that did not work. I submitted a bug report with 4 log files.

I thought they had made some changes a few months ago that was supposed to make it easier for older computers to use the app. I’m not particularly technically-savvy though…

You have! Thanks for making sure though!

I am not on a particularly old computer. I have submitted a bug report.

I fully understand your point, and I guess that coaches have their own preferences, but I find this quite confusing.

I have never used a coach so I am outside of my knowledge, but I would have thought that a coach could adapt their plans to fit any training app, e.g. a 1 hour aerobic interval session = 14 Vise Grips, or Nine Hammers, etc.

Further, it should be within the coach’s remit to ensure that the athlete enjoys the training and is motivated to continue, by allowing the athlete to use an environment with which they are (un)comfortable and familiar.

Naturally, this doesn’t mean the coach must choose SYSTM but to ignore it seems a little inflexible or short-sighted.

Anyway, none of this is a comment against you and good luck with your training.

I think you have a valid point. Though, I haven’t done any of his workouts yet to know that I won’t enjoy them as much as those on SYSTM. (^__~)

I’m sure there’s some good reason behind it though. He may just simply not be familiar with the library to know whether or not it’s something he’d feel comfortable getting behind. This doesn’t even get at whether he’d have to time to if he were open to the idea.

I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

I’ve drifted out of it for the same reason, I got a coach who sets stuff that is very specific so can’t be replicated by doing one of the fixed workouts. I miss some of the workouts and may go back to them one day when I decide to go back to just training to keep fit rather than with specific goals.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Or if money isn’t as much of a concern for me in the future. (Not that $150/year is necessarily a lot or whatever…)

Once a sufferlandrian always a sufferlandrian! You’ll always be welcome here and good luck with the coach! Hopefully they will give you what you need to achieve your goals.

100%! I’m not just a Sufferlandrian, either. I’m a Knight! (^__~)

Thank you very much for your kind words!
