Who’s up for 3 hours of suffering for SUF National Day this year?
If I remember correctly it should be the last full weekend of October which this year falls on Oct 24-25.

I support this!
Sir @Rupert has made a new badge for it. Should be able to earn it by riding at least 3 hours on Oct 24-25 (Sufferlandrian time zones apply).
The 3 hours can be continuous or broken down throughout the weekend. As long as you ride 3 hours total on SYSTM over the course of Saturday-Sunday you will earn the badge.
I will be doing 3 hrs of suffering that weekend, 3hr20 to be precise but it will be a run. Currently following a trail marathon training plan so mainly running, with a bit of bike to help manage a niggly knee, and because I can’t go completely without riding my bike for 3 months, but that weekend will be my final long run before I taper and attempt the Brecon Trail Marathon in early November. I don’t really like running and, according to the Google summary of the event, the weather on the Brecons in November ‘can be brutal’ so it is going to be suffering in its purest form.
Hmmm I have a 144km gravel race that weekend! That will be sufficient suffering.
I’ll be suffering, unfortunately not due to riding. I had a bit of a mishap (that’s me on the way to get loaded into the Delaware State Police helicopter for medivac to the Trauma Center. I sliced up my left leg to the bone, severing my Tibial Artery and Tibialis Anterior muscle. After losing an estimated 5 to 6 units of blood, I got a tourniquet on just before the calvary arrived to my aid. Although I enjoyed Monty Python skits, I never pictured myself acting out the Black Knight,
I am on the mend and look forward to starting easy spins on my Wahoo Kickr in the near future. Unfortunately, my Everesting will be delayed.
My request to all of you Sufferlandrians… Donate Blood, Platelets or Plasma. It has been a longtime dedication of mine, and coincidentally I was at the Blood Bank of Delamarva donating 3 units of Platelets and 2 units of Plasma just 2 days before I found myself receiving 2 units of emergency blood transfusions.
That sounds awful! But I’m very glad you’re still with us. That is definitely the wrong type of suffering. ![]()
Make sure you heal up properly before getting back to training. Hope your healing goes well, Sir!
That certainly sounds like epic suffering! Hope you smash it, Sir Chris!
Oh that’s horrible, glad you’re still with us!
Bloody hell! Wishing you a quick recovery.
I am (coincidentally) donating platelets tomorrow morning. The Chores can wait a day or two.
Wow, scary, wishing you a quick and full recovery. In spite of the horror the Monty python reference made me smile, best wishes ![]()
Since no-one else has asked, I will do it.
How’s the bike?
(seriously though, holy SUFballs! That’s quite the “bit of a mishap”!?
P.S. The Black Knight was the name of my (now destroyed) Gen 4 Domane SL6. Named for my love of Monty Python, and for its colour, and that I’m a KoS too. Destroyed under a warranty agreement (no humans were hurt, just a broken isospeed assembly) and replaced with a Gen 5

‘How’s the bike?’ Classic
Nice bikes indeed.
Wasn’t a bike, I was clearing brush at the edge of a field with a steel bladed brush cutter. It kicked back into my left leg. Brush cutter is fine, leg is missing some of the muscle and a couple arteries are sewn shut. Took a small chip out of the Tibia…
One of the benefits of cycling is that my heart rate stayed between 50 and 80 BPM for the entire time it took to fly me to the trauma center. My Whoop data is interesting. I have now been able to compare it to all the other reports from the 911 dispatch and paramedics. The spike was the actual strike and then I just mellowed out and laid on the tailgate of my truck with an improvised tourniquet until the medics arrived about 16 minutes later. That undoubtedly reduced the amount of blood I lost (which was still a lot).
The time from ~ 2:30 to 3:00 was the helicopter ride and the drop after that was drugs in the trauma bay. They cut my Whoop off at 3:08.
Oh my Sir… I’m glad you are here to tell the tale! That’s the wrong kind of suffering on every way ![]()
I was wondering when Sufferlandrian National Day was. Now I know!
Reassuringly even the National Day is longer than 24 hours to maximise opportunities for Suffering.
More than you!
I am going to be doing my annual Kitchen Sink workout that weekend, which IIRC inspired the original SUF day. It also happens to be the 6-year anniversary of my Kitchen Sink-inspired Knighthood, so yay! (I thought KS was due to be re-mastered - I’m not sure if that’s been done or if this will be the OG version… either way, much suffering will be had!)
Yes, Kitchen Sink has been remastered because some of the sections include videos from other workouts that have been remastered. So unfortunately it will not be the same original video. But three hours of suffering in the SYSTM app will get you the badge regardless of the workouts you choose. So you can ride the remastered KS or ride non-remastered videos or whatever videos you choose.
From what I have seen so far, when a workout is remastered, that does not necessarily mean that the mashups that use that workout are automatically remastered. That comes later (if at all).
(I remember that the comment: “This is Nibali’s group, not a recovery ride with your chubby friend” or similar, was still in the mashup long after it was taken from the source workout.)
