Wahoo June Challenge: The Domestique
Behind every Grand Tour Leader is a squad of riders who spent their day in the wind. Being a “Domestique” isn’t just about sacrifice; it’s about possessing a “Diesel Engine” that refuses to crack under pressure. This June, we’re moving away from the high-intensity “snap” and focusing on Sustained Power. We are building the stamina required to sit on the front of the pack and drive the pace until the road runs out.
Glory is for the leaders. The Engine Room is for the hard. This month, you aren’t looking for the podium—you’re looking for the wind. Put your head down, find your rhythm, and drive. If the person behind you is suffering, you’re doing your job. Welcome to the front of the pack.
The 4 Workouts
Complete these four sessions to earn your badge:
- NoVid | Sub-Threshold Variable Cadence: 2 x 12
- The Focus: Neuromuscular Efficiency & Aerobic Control.
- The Vibe: This is pure “Engine Room” maintenance. By holding a steady power target just below your threshold while varying your RPM, you teach your body to stay efficient regardless of the terrain or gear. It’s about being a versatile motor that can drive the pace at 70 or 100 RPM without blowing a fuse.
- The Sufferfest | The Way Out
- The Focus: Mental Fortitude & Sustained MAP/FTP.
- The Vibe: Being a domestique means staying on the front even when the “exit” looks tempting. This session is designed to build your aerobic ceiling through a series of long, grueling intervals that simulate the closing kilometers of a hard-fought stage. It’s the ultimate test of finding your “way out” through sheer persistence.
- Inspiration | AMANI Migration Race
- The Focus: Raw Endurance & Resilience.
- The Vibe: Step into the wild, high-altitude landscape of Kenya’s Maasai Mara. This session follows the riders of the AMANI project as they tackle the brutal Migration Gravel Race. It’s a masterclass in “unrelenting pace”—perfectly capturing the domestique spirit of grinding through dust and distance to get the job done.
- The Sufferfest | The Bat
- The Focus: Threshold Discipline.
- The Vibe: A Sufferlandrian classic that demands absolute control. The Bat isn’t about explosive attacks; it’s about living right on the edge of your threshold and refusing to crack. It simulates the job of a domestique during a long mountain ascent—keeping the pace so high that no one else can attack.

We have created a training plan for you this month with all the workouts on consecutive days for you to re-arranged throughout the month to suit your training schedule and earn your badge.
