When he’s riding inside, Ian’s a fan of the Sufferfest workouts Power Station and GOAT. So it’s no surprise he’s taking you on one of his favorite rides: big gear strength efforts on long climbs in the hills around the farmhouse. Not only that, but he’s also going to teach you to cut down a tree and stack firewood! What a day!
Remember, you have 50 hours to complete each stage. As long as it’s still today’s date anywhere on earth, you’re golden. Check out the Tour Challenge Page for details on stage open and close times.
Stage 4 done. This workout was right up my alley as I enjoy low cadence strength work. My legs get a lot of work/load without spiking my HR and breathing and because the prior work/load doesn’t overly tax my cardio system I am able to “handle” the last 5 minutes at 110+rpms. Oh, and sorry Mr. Boswell but I needed some race footage with motivational music and what better way to do that but to watch/listen/use the intervals in FC while doing your workout….you know….”My old friend misery, is always there for me. My old friend misery, will not abandon me.”
And on another note, since nobody still has yet to donate to my personal fundraising page through FB, here is a graph of the workout and kit that I wore today
I mostly like the Week With sessions. But I misremembered this one as more of a chill Zone 3 endurance ride. So I fired it up at 105% right after Who Dares.
Mmmmm no. Not a recovery ride
The good part though was finally understanding why people use the drops. Before I lost 50lbs of belly, drops meant not enough air and whacking myself in the gut with every stroke. This was my first ride with a lot of time both in the drops and standing - both of which I can finally do — and I could feel the difference in which hit my hamstrings and which my glutes. I had no idea. So cool!
Haven’t done it yet, because I do these stages on the actual day in my time zone, so it’ll be about 14 hours from now. I wish I’d been paying attention better, though, because I just did this as part of the Tour prep plan on Feb 13. That was only the second time I’d ever ridden it, and I would have preferred not to do it again so soon!
I agree.
I never noticed the difference between being in the drops vs. the hoods while doing low cadence until today’s stage. Hoods=quads and lower back. Drops=hamstrings and glutes. It was an “eye-opener”.
That’s just bad Tour Prep plan creation on the part of the Tour Prep plan creator. That should NEVER happen. Never mind that Who Dares featured in the January Challenge. It’s not like there’s a shortage of material in the library. These things just irk me.
Me too. Annoying. I could have substituted something else in the prep plan, but it would have been a little tougher with Who Dares in the January challenge.
I think at the end of this tour, I would like to get a poster out of all of gwydion’s graphs for each stage. No pressure to continue, @gwydion
It would really sum this year’s tour for me, which is, there are such a great group of people in Sufferlandria, doing all kinds of awesome things with an awesome sense of humour, and while it may be quite a bit different from the before times, we are making the best of it for a great cause!
I mean even Sir @Glen.Coutts is sacrificing himself across the border in disguise in no man’s land between sufferlandria and couchlandria in full support! still laughing at the Costco sausage challenge
