The 2025 wahooligan tour stage 4 - official race thread

Dame Isa, you can milk this for contributions! Set a donation amount per person and make posters for us! I would give quite a bit for that memento if this year’s tour

Oh my God… Difficult to imagine more boooooriiiiiiiiing story line… 0 exitement, I shouldn’t forget how far it went from The Sufferfest… Why not Power Station for the N+1 time ???

PS. Hope it’ll make me more mentally tough for the long depleating rides in summer

Three thoughts from the cooldown (since we were asked to reflect on our efforts today):

  • It’s more than a bit annoying to hear the humblebrag from our host that he can’t stay still on the bike while doing 450 watts for 20 minutes. Not sure where this ranks on my personal awfulness meter, but it’s up there.

  • Ian apparently thought that (1) the final interval would be easier than the 5 gringing intervals that preceded it and (2) that there would be a 120-minute cooldown (he mentions this twice during the cooldown) instead of 5 minutes or 6 minutes (with the DPF video at the end).

  • If we are going to make an analogy between fuel for a chainsaw and fuel for riding a bike, I feel certain that I am polluting the air a lot less than a 2-cycle chainsaw does.

Nothing must dull the suffering

I must be different, or else I still have my habits from the old dumb trainer days. If I understand the purpose of the workout, and if I understand how it fits into my training plan, I can deal with the boredom.

Not that I want boredom, but I can deal with it. Then again, I have done root canal without any novacaine.

is that as the person having it done or as the person doing it?

I was the person to whom it was done.

I can’t even imagine. Was this an emergency? Why would you not have had some type of anaesthesia?

Two reasons.

  1. I do not like the bodily feeling after the root canal.
  2. It is much faster to get started (you do not have to wait for it to take effect), and after it is over, I can get right to work.

Ok. I tolerated this and didn’t mind the climbs - Vermont is pretty. The rest period chainsaw/chopping got progressively more annoying until Boz mentioned Norwegian wood stacking. I did a Tim Allen grunt, because that sounds cool and I want to know how to stack wood like a proper Norwegian. And then he absolutely does not describe anything about the technique.

Boz, you SCHMO. You can’t drop something that sounds as awesome as Norwegian wood stacking and then not describe it other than note it is a sticking point with pretty daughters. Video went from a C to a F-- for that stunt.

Other than mention it should be stacked off the ground, under cover but outside, and positioned such that the prevailing wind blows through the stack to help drying.

Apart from that info, I agree, almost no info at all

Did any of you notice that when Ian starts his tractor/tree cutting portion of the video, he’s sitting on his tractor and it looks like his t-shirt says EAT MORE WHALE. Is that his secret? Can I reach his w/kg numbers if I include whale in my diet?

Kale is the new Whale

I really enjoy this video under normal circumstances (I. E. Not as part of the tour lol) so pretended I chose it and got it done.
Having a very strong liking of chainsaws, axes, cutting wood and great respect for woodstacking prowess for most of my life allows me to be far more entertained by this than I think your average systm cyclist!

I am also reminded of the Gardeners world segues “while I finish trimming my Hedge, here are your jobs for the weekend” except of course, “while I complete this totally non cycling related activity, back you go to cycling”.

I do appreciate the reminder that those of us with real world, non pro cyclist lives can get workouts while we do chores.
But, another one of those? This is in the tos? Moments. Moving on! Thanks for sharing a tad of your life with us Ian Boswell.

Fairly sure I can also now judge a man by the way he has his root canal done
