The Knight Rides 2025

How’s everyone doing this week? As we’re winding down the Knight Ride season (in favor of the great outdoors, in my case), thought we’d change things up a little bit. For this weekend’s Knight Ride, I propose a race challenge! Put those hard-fought winter gains to work for us.

For those that haven’t been paying attention, the first half of March Zwift has been running the 2025 Zwift Games, consisting of five racing challenges. We’re currently in the window for Stage 4, so I thought - for this week’s ride, we could all sign on for the hill stage on the new London Uprising course:

Stage 4 | Zwift Games | London Uprising

Saturday’s event starts at 0910 EDT. Click the link HERE to sign up - though there will be some other opportunities throughout the day if you can’t make that sign-up.

I recognize this isn’t normally the way we do business, but give yourself a chance! Take some pictures and post your results and thoughts here!

(Due to work, I’ll likely be riding the stage Friday at some point. Look forward to see who else signs on!)

Still a staggering feat.

Following CPT_A’s recommendation, I’ve signed up for tomorrow’s Stage 4 Zwift Games London Uprising Range 1. I hope to see some of you on the ride. The time will be different depending on where you live. Here’s the ride link: Stage 4 | Zwift Games | London Uprising | Range 1 - The at Home Cycling & Running Virtual Training App

Sorry I wasn’t able to join today! We have family coming over so we have to make a ton of food and clean the house.

HAPPY EQUINOX!

OK, so it’s tomorrow, but Spring has sprung! [serious question - is it the autumnal equinox in the southern hemisphere, or do you guys just start fall with the vernal equinox…which makes no sense.]

And with that, we’re winding down the 2025 Knight Rides for the spring [fall] with these last two weeks. Unfortunately the ride I WANTED to do this weekend - both because it looked awesome and because I needed it to close out the Zwift Challenge - was the ZG2025 queen stage, which apparently isn’t available to clubs as it’s released only as an event course at present. #sadface.

So instead - and to (almost) end the season on an epic, Sufferlandrian note - this Saturday’s Knight Ride will finish gloriously atop Mount Sufferlandria itself!

WATOPIA | SPIRAL INTO THE VOLCANO MOUNT SUFFERLANDRIA | 35 MILES | 1,165 FT

Hopefully I get to make one of these last two on the day of, instead of making it up Sunday. Hope to see you there!

[just…you know…in the other direction. :grimacing:]

I’ll be riding one of my own Mt. Sufferlandria rides (El Tour De Zona’s Bisbee Loop) this weekend as part of a three day suff-fest. I hope to make the last of the Knight Rides next Saturday morning.

OMG I know that course well - used to ride that Bisbee loop out of Fort Huachuca all the time! How long have they been doing this?

Aww…I miss Bisbee. Is it still weird?

I think this is the third year for El Tour De Zona. Day 1 is an ‘easy’ day up Ramsey Canyon. Day 2 is the Bisbee Loop (this year they are doing it clockwise versus the counter-clockwise of the first two years). Day 3 is an out and back to Tombstone where they close Charleston road to traffic. None of the rides are timed and cyclists are encouraged to spend time in Bisbee and Tombstone (they provide a secured bike corral both places).

Bisbee is still quirky and full of character (and characters). A couple of the restaurants didn’t survive COVID (Santiago’s Mexican ) but it still has plenty of local options. They also have their event weekends including the Bisbee 1000 stairs :face_vomiting: and Pirates of the desert :pirate_flag:.

When were you at Ft. Huachuca? I’ve been in Sierra Vista/Ft. Huachuca since 2000.

THE THOUSAND STAIRS! :joy:

Forgot about the 1000 stairs…I was there in the mid 1990’s.

First and foremost, Grunter blessed greetings fellow Sufferlandrians, have you suffered today?

While I immigrated to our fair nation on the lactic acid oceans a few years ago, I have not yet introduced myself in this place, while we might have suffered together on a Knight Ride.
As no one else has followed the call to tell you from our adventures on the last Knight Ride, I shall fulfill this duty (not Chore mind it!) for this time.

We started out quite early for some of us. So while I was finishing my lunch others were still hugging the morning coffee. Time in our nation is truly a strange thing. The valiant Sir @CPT_A had provided us with a yet new place to follow the call of the (virtual) road. While it had only one sprint and a short climb in the end to offer (some 3,8k, so about a “longish sprint”) we had quite some distance to cover. We did so the best way in the great company of about 9.
The start was a bit sleepy, but it didn’t take long to get in the rhythm of pedaling and chatting along the strange zwiftlandrian countryside. For once the Immortal Engine Sir @Medina81 was not pulling us at close to light speed but presented us the honor of returning a fragment of the favour he bestowed upon us on so many rides.
The highlight of the first part of the ride was certainly the unexpected inquisition (No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!) of Sir Ruben quizzing the rest of us in all things musical (coconuts i.e.).
This one had not been properly announced beforehand by the sufferlandrian ministry of tourism. We passed this test, like usual, with cheating and coffee breaks.

The miles flew by like they always do on these rides. As Sir Ian (please don’t confuse with Sir Ian2, who was very well present!) could not be present at the ride we were loudly cheering these rides in his absence. The Knight Rides have been a real enrichment this season again and have been lots of joy (spell: suffering, gruelling climbs, fierce sprints,…) and always in great company.

But then the focus shifted. It was the one and only sprint on the menu. Just one chance to give the best and make our nation proud. I can wholeheartedly announce we did. It was a tough fought all out sprint, contested down to the stem. In such a sprint, there can be only winners.
After catching our breaths we were rolling up to the fiery slopes of the Mount Sufferlandria replica (Wahoo-sized zwiftlandrian issue). It was time to celebrate the day and the end of the ride with a harshly paced attack of the climb upwards the slopes. The feeling in my legs was “glorious” especially after the sprint not that long ago. We finished in splendor, at least me gasping for air, but like with every Knight Ride with a big smile.

I personally will miss the Knight Rides and all your company during summer and I am looking forward to the ride next weekend. Let’s have a great last ride. For all those not in the mood of paying Z for just one more ride, you can always grab the monthly free 20k to join us. Enjoy the ride with us and let us know. While you can finish the ride, you will become invisible to the rest of us after 20k of distance. You can still ride with us though and enjoy this last ride for now.

Whatever grouperide Sir Ian will pick for us this saturday, be sure not to miss this one. I’m looking forward to see you there!

Thanks again Sir Ian for organizing this, Sir Ruben for pulling us up the climbs, sweeping and standing in for Sir Ian and of course to all of you fellow Sufferlandrians that joined up this season to celebrate our heritage and nation!

That sounds epic! I’m sad I’ve missed so many of them.

I’m doing my Tour shenanigans this Saturday, so I will be available to ride along with whatever plans you have for this weekend’s ride.

:tada:

Hey Sir Evan!

That would be so great to ride with you again, really looking forward to! You were missed on the rides.

You surely did miss out on adventures, but there is saturday and then the new season in fall.

Rest up and cu soon!

Well I don’t know about y’all, but I really enjoyed this winter in the pain cave and hanging with you guys every Saturday. Feel like we had a pretty solid season. We had a solid core of riders, with good turnout every week. Sir Ruben @Medina81 dragged us over countless km, Sir Alan @montgoma staged one epic comeback TT after another, @Brann_Mac_Finnchad MacMissile showed off his racing skills, and the rest of us - well - we worked hard and had some laughs. I appreciate everyone coming out this year, and hope to kick it off again in the fall and make it even better. (Club workouts and time trials, Zwift? Hello?)

So last ride of the season, let’s have some fun and take in the sights of our mythical nation (minus the volcano, which we saw plenty of last week!). Without further ado:

THE KNIGHT RIDE | SEASON FINALE | STORM THE CASTLE!

For this final ride, we’re going for the Muir And the Mountains loop in Watopia. We’ll meander through the Muir Woods for a quick race against Fluffy, then spin up the back side of the Epic KOM (WITH RADIO TOWER :sob:) through the laser goats. We’ll then storm the castle with a cracking descent of the KOM down to the islands, to finish back in Muir on the Titans Grove KOM.

Sign-up link HERE. LET’S GOOOOO.

[FWIW, the Muir Woods area in Watopia was named for John Muir, “The Father of National Parks” in the USA. Fitting, I thought. Spare a thought for the US National Parks, the NPS, and all of the folks who are caught up in the @#$% storm that is life in the :united_states: right now. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:]

Really hoping to arrange my schedule to make this final ride, but for those who’ve asked - I retired just under two years ago from a career in the US federal government and military. Since then I’ve been teaching at a couple of local colleges, but somehow this spring I fell into a job as a zookeeper.

So yes, I get paid to go to the zoo. Hoping you are having a fun day as well!

I’m in Fort Worth visiting my son. He has a few reptile pals. This is Cheryl the bearded dragon. I have her outside catching some rays. She doesn’t drink too often. I can relate to that.
