THE OFFICIAL 2023 ARBtWiT (formerly ARBToS)

OK, I am catching up. Adult beverages weren’t really on the cards until later this week, but I got an invite out tonight, so… when duty calls… (and to think I was considering Rabbit Mountain for tonight, oh well…)

“Real” recovery post stage 1 was Skratch chocolate recovery mix, and post stage 2 was supposed to be the Skratch horchata recovery mix which is OFF. THE. CHARTS. Try it. Unfortunately, I left it on the counter as I left for work. Thankfully it was in an insulated container, so it’s for post stage 3 now.

So tonight, some quite Sufferlandandrian artwork for beverage #1 (note the plague mask):

The Hustle is Broken by DSSOLVR, Asheville, NC, USA

This is an IPA from the DSSOLVR brewery “Hustle” series. This is IMHO the hottest brewery in Asheville, NC. Very highly recommended, and despite being the “cool new place” in town, such friendly and nice staff, never “too cool” for you. Incredible artwork and style abound, peep their Instagram at DSSOLVR (@dssolvr) • Instagram photos and videos to check it out. For about two years they maintained a flowing Instagram grid where all the posts flowed together in a continuous poster of sorts. They finally killed this grid in August 2022, so you’ll have to scroll to see this masterpiece. Especially impressive on the mobile app.

Beverage number two (that’s allowed right?.. two stages and all), a lower ABV dark lager from Burial. The hot place in Asheville for several years running now. Is it good? Yes… Is it that good? Maybe not. Also has on point artwork all the time. Some of their beer names are complete stream of consciousness sentences, but this one is quite simply Dusk. All labels feature dead things… it’s just their thing (“Burial” and all). Burial Beer Co. (@burialbeer) • Instagram photos and videos See The Goonies and Tom Selleck, yes.

…you have to have a coozie… why not an AHTBM one?

G’night All, the Rabbit Mountain beckons early.

I think DSSLVR could be a new SUF vid. I mean, that’s what lactic acid does right? It’s a DSSLVR?

Noice! Great way to wash down the pain shakes

Yeah Asheville has turned into the quite the craft hub, I’m told by friends in the area. Didn’t Dogfish or Sierra Nevada open a big, new facility there?

Oooh, and a true beer nerd with a cozy!

Love the Skratch Labs! My error this week was not realizing how low my stocks were, so I should have my resupply just in time for everything to be done…

Sierra Nevada is near the Asheville airport in Mills River. Absolutely world class facility, stellar restaurant too. There were rumors of Dogfish as well as Deschutes in years past, but no. Oskar Blues has a facility in Brevard a bit further west. But, yes, Asheville has been (the somewhat fishy voting method) Beer City USA a few times.

Hi-Wire is probably the fastest growing Asheville brewery. They have expanded to 11 locations, 5 of those out of state, three locations in Asheville. 95+% of that beer is made at one facility in Asheville but they are doing some small batch in some other locations.

Not sure this will help my quads after @Coach.Neal.H’s leg burner up Rabbit Mountain, but my stage 3 offering is RABBIT RABBIT Double IPA from Lamplighter Brewing Co. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Just up the road from Haaavahd.

Yeah, after today, make it a double…

Have had not a single bite thus far. Maybe our European compatriots will wake up and buy into the madness hahaha. Mot drinking shots. Just a few drops on my cheese and crackers. I think a shot of that would result in death.

I only ask because I brew a killer chocolate stout with chipotle peppers that is just…mmmm. But I’ve only tried going hotter than that once or twice with test batches (8000 scoville), and I just don’t see the point. When it’s so hot you melt your face, I don’t get it.

If just used as seasoning, though…Nah – I still don’t get it.

Yup. Given that my issue capsicum is +/- 5M Scoville, 1.5M seems a little crazy to be willingly putting in your mouth!
