To be frank, this will be the first time any Wahooligan will be doing this tour. It would be fruitless offering a comparison to a previous Tour of Sufferlandria as everything offered in The Wahooligan Tour of 2023 will be new to everyone.
Previous TOS, you knew you could suffer or take it easier. This new Tour,
Being a Canuck, the Wahooligan name doesn’t bug me as it seems pretty clearly a playful name. That said, I do understand the offence taken from some Europeans and in particular those from the UK though and am well aware of the history of hooliganism.
My unwillingness to call myself a Wahooligan is more related to there not being an actual real live mythical nation (i.e. Sufferlandria) with a rich history, culture, geography etc. I mean, there’s an airport! We even have an airline
I’ve got my Sufferlandrian citizenship certificate that I downloaded off the interwebs in the before times, GvA dang it.
I’m not lobbying for a name change. That’s a losing battle. But I’m definitely in for the Wathingamebob Tour and the challenge and the fun that we will make of it cuz that’s what we do. Ride bikes. Have fun. It even says so on my GCNcc socks #GCNCC013
Hi Glen, I know you are close to team there
… do you know when Virtual Power using Bluetooth (for ioS plaforms) be available for RGT, like it has been for Systm and the Sufferfest app before that for years ?
It might seem that way, but I’m not actually. Just a guy who spends waaaay too much time in the forums (avoiding the UCI MTB ride at the moment, ) and have been around for a few years. No direct connection beyond wahoo having ALL my money
You have to remember that RGT and SYSTM are 2 radically different apps. I’d love to see enhancements on both of them and ideally an actual integration at some point but given the current economic climate, I’m just happy we’ve got both apps to work with at all.
Any way for you to use a desktop version of RGT? If so, the ant+ dongles and usb extension cables aren’t crazy expensive.
Despite having grown up in the UK in 80s and 90s, and seen football violence at first hand and friends injured by it, I would never associate a playful tag like Wahooligan with that.
It never once made me think of anything other than a play on words until this forum started equating the two.
I understand above stated objections, however count me in as one who takes the name in its more lighthearted sense (can’t count the number of times neighborhood moms called me a little hooligan as a kid ). Also, as I’m new to the platform this year and the Sufferlandrian culture was part of what I quickly related with, I don’t have the attachments the other long timers here have to the name.
Either way, sounds like a fun event so count me in!
On a tech note: I did find the new prep plan under Plans > Cycling > Event Prep > Online > The Waholligan Tour, but after I choose a volume option it just says “(6) Title” and stalls out, so there seems to be an error here. Hopefull fixed soon!
I’m heading up the Knights of Sufferlandria team, this year. If you are a Knight of Sufferlandria riding the Whatchamacallit Tour please consider banding together to represent the great nation of Sufferlandria in raising funds for the Davis Phinney Foundation.
