Hi
The subject of Tickr issues, namely constant dropouts has been touched on here already and there are suggestions as well in the help pages but has anyone actually solved this issue once and for all because I am starting the tear my hair out with this one. My situation is… Android phone latest version, brand new Tickr (kindly replaced by Wahoo after recent discussions on this very subject where they decided my old one, which was actually new, was faulty) New Direto trainer correctly calibrated, Wi-fi is on and has to be to use my phone and is only 2 metres away from my trainer and phone. Google Chromecast so I can view my training on the TV, no other apps on my phone are using or connected to Bluetooth. Bolt is turned off and well away from my trainer and phone, Amazon Firestick is off, Echo dot is off. Wahoo fitness app has been removed from my phone. Tickr connects ok but give it a few minutes and it goes off, then comes back on, sometimes straight away, sometimes many minutes later or not at all. I have tightened and loosened the strap wet it more each time, moved its position but nothing works. I am only one and a half weeks into my 2 week free trial and surely with all of Wahoos tech and experience they can get a simple HRM to work properly with their app? Anyone solved this? thanks
I’ve not had dropouts, but I have had stretches where it grossly under-measures my heart rate. My solution is to make it tighter. The TICKR seems to require a very tight strap. While it seems too tight when I put it on, I don’t notice during the workout. That might not be your problem, but it’s something to try.
Edits: typo correction
I have had similar problems, but only with SYSTM. With Rouvy I never seem to have a problem. Making the strap tighter does seem to help.
The only way I have been able to get a consistent connection to SYSTM with my TICKR is to use the ANT+ channel.
I understand this is (generally) only a solution with Windows and an ANT+ dongle. I also make the assumption that all TICKRs are dual channel.
Thanks all, My phone is capable of ANT+ But as you say, only available on PC for Systm. Will try tightening the strap more even though it does feel pretty tight already, cheers
strange… I’ve never had any problems. my trainer is a Tacx Flow and I use a separate cadence sensor, also via Bluetooth
Did “The Shovel” this morning and the damn thing kept dropping in and out during the first 20 minutes of so then it dropped out completely for the rest of the session. tried everything during the session to get it to re-connect but it wasn’t having it. All I can try is not casting from my phone to my TV just to see but that isn’t ideal viewing the training programs on a miniature screen. Not happy!!!
I wonder if casting is the issue.
I’m not an android guy but I have a similar thing with BTLE headphones that I connect to my Mac to play tunes (or SYSTM vids) but when I use screen mirroring via AppleTV the source for sound gets kicked over to the AppleTV.
If I connect the headphones to my Mac then screen mirror, that process “forces” the sound source to be the AppleTV but my headphones aren’t connected to that. In my case, I need to go to the settings on my Mac and untick the sound source from AppleTV back to the Mac. I wonder if something similar is happening when you cast such that somehow, the app wants to “see” an HRM from the display device instead of from the source.
I dunno if this helps you or not or if there are settings that you can fiddle with via Chromecast but I TOTALLY feel your frustration.
Usually, by 8-10 minutes, it “settles in”, and I usually do not have a problem for the rest of the workout.
Have you tried resetting the Tickr, and/or a new battery? I’ve had several Tickrs and whilst the experience has generally been great they have all seemed to misbehave badly when the battery gets low. Often it’s not obvious that the battery is in fact low but instead can seem like a faulty unit
I’m convinced my current device drains the battery far quicker than it should (I don’t know why).
It’s a brand new unit from wahoo. They replaced my other new one which they thought was faulty due to this issue and that had a new battery in it but it still played up. It works fine with the bolt but as soon as Bluetooth is involved it goes stupid. I am going to try it without Chromecast and see if that is the problem, will know by tomorrow.
I have the Tickr Fit. It 100% always connects to my Headwind, however while the Headwind is humming away the SYSTM app can’t seem to see that I have a HR. The Headwind is even varying the speed based on HR so the HRM is definitely broadcasting and reading. I have the same issue connecting to my Bolt. My usual experience is that it seems to eventually ‘kick in’ if you turn the HRM on and off a few times. In my experience, it won’t find the HRM later, it needs to be restarted; wait, see if it connects, if not, turn it off and on again.
Welcome to the forums @Brett_Kent. You’re very patient! Sounds like a real pita!
Did a cadence hold workout today using just my phone WITHOUT casting it to my TV via Chromecast and NO DROPOUTS! It appears that it is Chromecast causing the issues so all I need to do now is to find a way to cast to my screen whilst stopping it from interfering with Bluetooth
that’s good and, that sucks! Good luck
Check if your phone supports HDMI output through the USB-C port, so you could run a cable (using a suitable adapter) to your TV.
May have an answer to this ongoing saga!! Will know tomorrow when next workout is due. My Wi-Fi router is dual band and is/was configured to select the best band for each connection. I found out that my Chromecast is 5GHZ compatible so I re-configured my router to non auto mode so I can select what band each connection is on. All my other stuff including the chrome cast was on 2.4GHZ, the same frequency as Bluetooth which is probably what is causing the problem so that is now on the 5GHZ frequency. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I have the half Monty coming up soon so really want the big screen and Hi-Fi sound for maximum motivation.
I finally just threw my Tickr against the wall. (Resisted stomping on it) and got a Polar. No problems with the Polar at all. I have to say that neither the Tickr or Wahoo cadence meter ever worked for me. Waste of money.
I have both Polar and Wahoo chest-strap monitors, and they both occasionally drop the Bluetooth connection to my windows computer. My KICKR Bike never drops the connection. The Wahoo probably drops it more often, but it’s rare enough that I don’t bother to use the ANT+ option instead because that would mean messing around with the dongle and an extension cable to get it close enough to the bike. The Polar eats batteries faster than I would think possible. Definitely saw things improve when I moved a wireless router farther away from the bike setup.
Hi what Polar HRM did you get? (I have an old H1 which doesn’t have Bluetooth)as I am getting to the " wall" stage where I have tried everything and it still drops out and eventually never comes back on again. Works fine on a ride outside with my Bolt etc and it worked with just my phone as display but as soon as I use Chromecast, even though that is now on 5GHZ and should not interfere with Bluetooth, it goes haywire. cheers
