Lol. Perfect ta.
I had been thinking about my own feed back, luckily for me @emacdoug said pretty much everything I had on my mind.
Agree also with @rbobski13 .
7 days or 9 days, I’m down for whatever, but don’t get rid of the 50 hour clock. That allows a rest day in the middle.
I really missed the crazy fundraising opportunities this year that were there in years past. I’ve got a signed photo from Evelyn Stevens from years past. I loved donating to get Mike Cotty to ride in a cow outfit in years past. Maybe it was the split between FB and here, but I think there were 2 or 3 chances like that this year.
I’m a fan of the stages together, being all downloaded as one big stage, and then maybe not have a cooldown that goes into a warm up.
All in all though, good fun time, and a ton of $$ raised for a great cause!
In no particular order
-
difficult to find donation page/confusion about if I was actually donating to the person I thought I was. Might just be me.
-
New videos are awesome
-
Once I found the dashboard all was good, thankfully it was posted on the forum.
-
I too am on the backend of the 50 hour window so I was mostly a day ahead to “keep up” with everyone else. Not a bad thing but it makes a mess out of the calendar as it won’t (maybe I couldn’t find a way) let me move the date around to make it right.
-
Wanted to join the group ride(s) but time window put it at a time where I couldn’t. Not a gripe, more expressing my disappointment in my own schedule.
-
length felt good. as it’s currently winter I had other winter activities demanding my attention, especially this year when the snow came super late.
-
excellent job by all who put this together, it’s not easy putting on an event like this and pulling it off with this much success.
I am just a serf in Sufferlandria but I liked the challenge of the ToS…and was wondering if GvA could put together one day events short of a Knighthood attempt but some combo of rides taking three hours or so…kind like one day stage races.
2021 ToS was amazing, and the 7 days were about right.
I too am on the backend of the 50 hour window, so I felt like I was late to a lot of parties. In particular, I never seemed to be current on the challenges. I found out about @Magnito splendid “Norway” challenge reading another post. Are the Challenges centralized somewhere, perhaps on the “dashboard” that others have referenced? I thought the dashboard was the page that showed how many people had completed each stage, which is cool, but not interactive. I think a some type of centralized list of Challenges would be helpful. If we could donate from said centralized page, and see how close the challenger is to the goal, that would be even more fun.
Now, to Recharger.
One positive for me, was that they announced the 2022 dates for the tour already. By the time the dates were announced for 2021, a lot of people were locked into other plans and cancelling/changing mid plan kind of defeats the purpose of a structured training plan. I spent a few weeks trying to figure out how to take part and not ruin the plan.
Either way, great fun, will be back next year. But I’ll be much better prepared to plan the preparation and taper for the tour next year.
Martin
Yes great the dates are already announced - on the calendar and easier to plan around the tour! Also agree that 7 days was perfect.
The 2022 dates are announced? Can’t find them. And I’m trying to support forum.thesufferfest.com more than facebook.
13th to 19th of Februar 2022.
It‘s written in a few of the last Facebook posts. I can’t find them at the moment, sorry. You have to take my word for it.
I second this idea!
One place the ToS2022 dates are written is in Sir David’s wrap up post. Which is only on Facebook… David McQuillen
It’s also in the description of the Facebook group, also on, er, Facebook. Reflects a feedback that the forum “race village” seemed to be largely abandoned by the minions in favour of Facebook. But then most of the action was on Facebook
Another great list of feedback … adding to the long list this morning …
Update! Got a nice email from SUF with a special message from Mr. Phinney himself!
In case you missed it.
Davis Phinney Thank You Sufferlandrians!
FB be Forum. I found it hard to navigate between the two and with south a hectic schedule it was tough to make sure both places got treated equally. While buzz here was very good, it seemed that FB still had more momentum and still seemed easier for people. Having said that, we will continue - now that the tour is over - to keep driving toward the forum as our main place.
Hi Sir Martin. Feedback from someone completing their first ToS.
-
I think I had another couple of sessions in me at 100% but believe it was the right decision to go with 7 days, given the fact that the last thing anyone needs at the moment is a busted immune response.
-
The route was good and I personally found the 50 hour window useful on a couple of occasions when the real world interfered with my tour.
-
The dashboard worked OK for me but it would be better if the tour was self-contained in the challenges tab of the app or website.
-
I enjoyed the content on the forum (in particular Sir Pierre’s videos) … but my only “social media” exposure is Strava so I probably missed out on the Facebook front. The thread nature of the forum is great for individual stage updates etc. but not quite so good for general participant interaction.
Overall I really enjoyed it (if that’s the right turn of phrase) and will be back in 2022. Its been said many times but well done to the team for organising ToS 2021 and all those who made it the event it was in these strange times.
Thanks !!
Great feedback, Matt - and thank you for watching my videos.
Just one little pointer: I‘m no „Sir“ yet. No Knight of Sufferlandria. Never had the mental toughness to complete my knighthood. But whispers around the paincave say there is already a secret date planned…
I‘m glad you „enjoyed“ your tour. Hope to see you around here.
Ha … well there should be an honorary in it for you regardless sir … (with a small S).
Good luck with the whispered attempt … I will be doing similar before the Summer arrives (hopefully).
I tried to use both the forum and FB this year. The main advantage that I think FB has is that the replies to a particular post go directly below that post, so that if I encourage someone there, it’s easy for them and others to see that. As a result, lots of photos/stage reports got encouraging comments. Just have a look at the responses to the suffering photos posted in stage 7 here versus the responses posted on the FB page–there were a lot more encouraging comments or well dones posted there than here, Here, the replies don’t show up (at least in my viewing of the forum on the web) directly below the relevant comment. As a result, I find I can’t follow a “conversation” like I can on FB and rarely reply. I think that’s a weakness of the forum and is probably not readily fixed, but it does reduce my enthusiasm for using the forum…
