Tour 2026 Shenanigans

Seems I did the wrong Prologue… oops. I felt like I really needed the mind @#!$ this morning.

With tomorrow being the official start of The Tour I figured I’d skip baseline donut testing and condense my plan. Today’s pre-rest day rest day feels pretty appropriate.

Since with official Sufferlandrian time the Tour has already started, it seems appropriate that you’ll be waiting to start your pre-Tour resting today instead of yesterday.

Good point, Sir. My personal motto is, literally:

No Pain, No Gain

My small problem is…it has decided to rain, and I cannot locate my trainer outside in the rain to ride with the bees. Will have to wait till it clears or defer to the next dry day

Whilst I am prepared to suffer in the rain, my trainer is not

I still think GOAT would be an appropriate ride. It is the finale and the last Tour in the Goat suit.

It also gives Heretic more time to show up and ride with you.

Maybee even bring some of his own hive..

Hahahah, ok am happy to ride GOAT with the bees in the Goat suit! Let me check the long range forecast tho as dont want to leave it till last and its raining again…

checks long range forecast

Ok so the forecast looks ok, but this is NZ and it will change 10 times before Stage 7 rolls around. I will keep an eye on it tho and bring the Shenanigan forward as necessary

If it just ends up bee-ing the Goat suit during GOAT due to weather (or other unforeseen circumstances) that is okay.

You should be afraid of the pain faces which are coming your way. I think my camera screen shattered in fear at the sight.

No pain faces from me. I can’t afford to break any cameras. Or mirrors.

I would NEVER contribute to that.

And Oscar the Grouch it is.

Thank you for not electrocuting yourself Dame Lisa! We’re not that into suffering here.

@Heretic You, sir, are legendary. THANK YOU! True Sufferlandrian in and out.

Oscar the Grouch it is!! I expect my face will get as red as the eyebrows.

WOW, the DPF has reached $96,588! They reached their goal technically before March 1st even started!!! Amazing!

Turns out that I have an unlimited capacity for comfort.

For me, I chose to start the traditional 9 day tour with fresh numbers, as it has been a long time since I did a Full Frontal. Results? Not so good…my FTP is down, but MAP and AC are up, and I hit a sprint PR. Given I have issues with long threshold efforts–always have–I was placed as a Pursuiter (or more accurately, an oversized Hill Climb Specialist)

I started the day with a lightened version of No Place Like Home (@8080% of old numbers), before going into the Full Frontal and being crushed by it (see pain face from the 1min effort below).
From there, I attempted The Cure with new numbers before my legs fell off in the first interval. I returned to the bike to do it fully after dinner and completed it with–if not ease–then without breaking down and crying.

As with last year, I’m tracking my Garmin stats, and seeing if I can roll the “Recovery Hours to Next Workout” over.
I ended the evening workout at 71 hours (from fully rested). Training load from 294 to 883. I am now “Maintaining” my training, after my preporatory deload days taking me to Peaking, and Recovery.

Music choices:
Faun Radio; my personal Workout playlist (mostly Epic and Melodic metal); 80s Sword and Sourcery Soundtracks.

Thanks go to Dame Isa for her donation to my tour!

Valiant suffering. I can’t believe you would schedule anything in the same day as FF. So, There’s no place like home, Full Frontal, and The cure in one day blows my mind!

One day of your tour alone is a shenanigan. You have 9 going on! :joy:

This one’s for you, @Heretic… I was able to trade in your Wooptiedooptie points for pie at the local currency exchange centre. So, thanks for that :folded_hands:

I knew today was going to be especially unchallenging, what with condensing a 21 Stage 3 week DeTraining block into 1 week to match The Tour, and ALL.THE.DONUTS.

But hey, someone’s gotta take one for the UCI (United Couchlandrian Infiltrators).

I was very glad to have had yesterday’s Pre-Rest Day Rest Day in prep for today’s opening Rest Day. Here’s what I had on tap (plus some beers)
