Upload own workouts

Sorry if this has been spoken about before, I had a search but couldn’t find anything.

It would be really good if it were possible to upload your own power-based workout to the app. What made me think of this is that at the weekend my plan called for the Endurance + session. I wanted to extend it to 2 hours. What I did was play the Open 120 which also has the Hammer video with it, and adjusted the target power every ten minutes to mimic the Endurance + intervals. I thought it would be pretty neat to have been able to upload those intervals as a workout in advance and run it with it the video. It may make less sense using your own workouts with some of the other videos as the edits match the intervals, but even then it might be nice.

I would note that, for instance, you can use the TrainingPeaks workout builder and then upload to the whaoo elemnt, so it’s a similar sort of feature I am talking about. I am under no illusions though that the SUF app and the Elemnt software are in any way similar. The first rule of software development is that the answer to any question asked by someone not involved and that begins “Isn’t it just…” is “No!”.

Obviously a fully integrated workout builder would also be cool, but that’s an entirely different offering to the usual SUF approach, and there are other things around (like TP) that are perfectly adequate.

I’d note that I’m pretty well sold on the SUF workouts so personally am not looking for a wholesale addition of own workouts, the suf approach and ecosystem is superb and one can always of course ride without it if you need something else.

I’d be interested in hearing other opinions.

I agree that would be nice, but as a stop-gap, you could always use your element to control the trainer with the workout you built in TP. I’ve done this with my Stages Dash in the past when I couldn’t make an outside ride work and it was quality.

I’m just trialing the SYSTM app now and am surprised that I cannot upload a workout in .fit format. How do you get it to understand your training history? Or can ir read this data from an intermediary like Strava?

@Psychopasta Currently , SYSTM can’t read your off-SYSTM workout history, although it can send your on-SYSTM workouts to Strava or Training Peaks (or some other places) where you can keep comprehensive records.

I love SYSTM for its workouts and training plans, but do my record keeping elsewhere.

Thanks! That does seem a bit of a limitation to me, as SYSTM can never know your true training load

True….but if you follow one of their plans and sometimes substitute outdoors for indoors with some attention to how hard you go, you can control your training load (or use Training Peaks or Strava to help you). Even if you do all your workouts in SYSTM, if you add extras beyond their plan, it doesn’t change the plan. So in that sense, it doesn’t “know” or adjust to your load anyhow.

Perhaps that’s a limitation, but it offers great workouts and excellent plans. You just have to make your own choices about how to follow them. Personally, I wouldn’t want SYSTM to automatically change my training plan every time I did something a little different. There are too many reasons why I choose to do things differently and consequently, I want to control any adjustments to the overall plan.

True enough. I just bought some new Wahoo kit and got a year of SYSTM with it. The year of SYSTM arrived by email while the hardware is being shipped…I just wanted to load up some data files and see how SYSTM processed it. No biggie.

Thanks for your help and reply!

If you look back at the original launch post for Systm, it does seem that we will be seeing outside workouts appear on the calendar by the end of the year (or thats the intention)

Wite a new feature added, Analytiics

Thanks @PedalMonkey! That makes sense. I have ‘Getting Away With It’ scheduled for tomorrow (the first of the Intro series) so we’ll see how that goes :grinning:
