Wahoo Cadence or something else?

Hi, I am looking for a dedicated cadence sensor for my indoor training bike. The current set-up using the Zwift Hub’s algorithm to estimate cadence from the rear wheel only works up to about 120-130 rpm, and for the fast spinning sessions, i’d like to have good accuracy to around 170 rpm.

Any recommendations? I see mixed reviews for the Wahoo Cadence and read in the forum here that it tops out around 160 rpm. That might be ok compromise if there’s nothing better around the same price, though…

Seconded! I have been wondering the few years now, what actually works for everyone and captures high cadences?

I’ve used a Garmin cadence sensor for years and I’ve never had any issues.

When I’m fresh, I hit about 170 rpm on some of the cadence drills and have never noticed any measurement problems.

I have a Wahoo RPM Cadence sensor that I’ve had for at least 6, maybe 7 years. It’s still working great. I’ve registered over 175rpms with it. I don’t know what the limit is on it, but I know what the limit is on my legs. :slight_smile:

My indoor bike now was also my outdoor bike for almost two decades and for a majority of that time it had a Topeak PanoBike speed and cadence sensor. Since it’s still on that bike, which for the last couple of years has lived on my KICKR v5, I use that in SYSTM. It would be overkill at this point to purchase a PanoBike for cadence sensing, but it works great. And it successfully recorded something like 183 the last time I did a Cadence Builds workout.

My spouse, who only rides TrainerRoad indoors (because of their group feature) doesn’t pay nearly as much attention to cadence so she’s perfectly satisfied with the KICKR Core calculated cadence.

Ha! Literally in the middle of this. Had a cheap, “well reviewed” junk sensor for my Zwift bike that died in a month. Haven’t had the best luck w the wahoo sensor, though they’re not bad. Was JUST thinking about ordering the garmin.

I have a wahoo cadence sensor (the one you can attach to your shoe or zip tie to your crank). It tends to be fine up to 150ish. The only cadence sensor I have that will actually report and record my 200 rpm club rides (aka Cadence Builds), is my old Ant+ only Garmin sensor that attaches to the crank. I don’t know if the new dual broadcast, v2 ones are as accurate/reliable/consistent.

I use a Magene cadence sensor on a couple of bikes. It works as well as my Garmin sensors. ~$17 on Amazon.

Thanks everyone. Have ordered the Magene S314 - reviews no worse than others, high max rpm, half the price of Garmin/Wahoo. Will let you know how I get on… (will probably injure myself trying to test the maximum rpm limit :smiley: )
