Wahoo X July Challenge - The Great French Challenge

Sir Glen, as it is written, so let it be.

Seriously, if you did this, I would do it with you. And I feel exactly as you do about them. Our misery would make such good company.

How many are there of the blasted things? Could we finish in a single (long, northern) winter if we did one per week?

Finished this off today with There Is No Try - what a classic, great workout!

I’m very happy I rode the Ventoux workout as my first step on this badge. Getting the hardest one out of the way first helped with my motivation.

That would be swell @DameCristy, there are 19 of the blasted things, for now that is, and I’ve got 6 done so 13 for the badge over 13 weeks seems like a good (read: TERRIBLE) idea. How many have you got remaining?

Edit: I’d aim to start in September as my wife is taking me to Couchlandria for 2 weeks in January and I’d like to be done by Dec 31.

Edit 2: make that start in first week of October. (Was working on minion math :stuck_out_tongue:)

This is how I got tied in to doing all the past ToS rides. Who made up this stupid rule anyway???

+1 on that, in fact they are some of my favourite workouts

JUST DO IT!! It’s really not that bad, just the last 30 minutes or so will play on your mind and it’s like a 20 min FTP test!!.. AND you will feel great once its done

Oh dear, I’ve done just two! [Hangs head in shame]

But one of the two is Ventoux, so at least that’s behind me!

I have a Couchlandrian excursion planned for October to visit my new grandbaby in Korea. So I def won’t be finishing by Dec. 31, but if I start after my trip, I’ll be able to finish before the Wahoolinabob tour.

Some say Metallica (Creeping Death), others say it was Yul Brynner as Ramses II in Cecil B DeMille’s Ten Commandments circa 1956 (0:59 on the clip below)

But the fact is, it’s all there in writing if you read between the lines.

Congrats @DameCristy! Sounds like a great and exciting trip!!

So, while our schedules may be different, we shall both get it done before Spring meets our wheels again.

I was just going to say that you’re going to have a long winter with all your new commitments to ride Suf National Day, Defender, and now all the Pro Rides. Lol.

Hmm… what else have you obligated yourself to do… I better scan the forum again… :man_detective:

Just remember you can never leave. Good luck on your re-entry thru Sufferlandrian customs. There’s no place like home! :innocent:

I was waiting for someone to pounce on this one. Congrats on your new Mount Sufferlandria, Sir @Glen.Coutts !

:smirk:

(fwiw, might be right there with you. KS on Sufferlandria Day will complete my Sufferfest badges, so ProRides and Galicia are all I have left.)

done, but imo there’s nothing more boring than Pro Rides. the solution that worked best for me was to switch to level mode turn the sound off and put some cool music on instead and enjoy the scenery around and up Mont Ventoux. I had planned a long and steady ride for that day anyway

Done!

  • Loved the Ventoux, though had to dial down to 80% for the final 5 mins. Absolutely love being in the peloton and following the action and tactics and a chance to see how fast the pros go as they churn out 2-3 times more watts than me.
  • There Is No Try was much harder than I expected too, but getting to ride with Jensie and sprint with Cav was great
  • Provence: also tough, also good
  • Wolfpack insider is a bit boring when you’ve already seen it before and compared to the production levels in the Netflix Unchained series which I was watching this month too

Would be nice to perhaps delay the release of selected new content, especially inspiration ones, to the start of the monthly challenge, so that no-one has done it before.

Did the Ventoux challenge this morning and got my badge. Was about how I remembered it. I think the tempo section in the middle may have been the easiest part - other than the easy recovery section before it. Also love that we get to ride the Gorges de Nesque section.

I had a bunch of time off this month and knew I was came in undercooked so I did it at 95%. Barely made it through but I did it. Kept wondering in the end whether that was Clara breathing hard or me. :joy:
