Way Too Early Second KOS Anniversary Quest Announcement

That was hard to read. I feel like I’m suffering along with you in your preparation for the 2nd anniversary of your annual quest.

Also, I’m sure you know that at this point you could do nothing but eat donuts and potato chips and you’ll be as prepared for the ride on the weekend as if you followed the taper schedule :smiling_imp:

Yes, that’s very true. I’m mostly trying not to overdo it this week. I am usually very good at tapering. But I have this totally meaningless goal to hit 10k km ridden for the year which I am also way ahead on and shouldn’t be bothered to worry about at this point… and yet my brain keeps trying to make me stay on schedule at the same time. :grimacing: :see_no_evil:

btw… I am downloading all the videos in the app right now. And I’m suddenly questioning my decision to do Revolver as number 12. But why should I start questioning my sanity now?

GvA says my list is final… so let it be written.

How many indoor pedal revolutions does 10,000 km equal?.

So I made a compromise for my workout this morning and I think it worked out great due to some fortuitous timing and managing to get out of bed reasonably quickly (for me).

My standard weekly mileage plan has 30 miles on Mon, 15 on Tues, 30 on Wed, 15 on Thur, 30 on Fri, and 40+ on Saturday. That would give me 160 miles every week. I already have 36 on Monday and 17 on Tues which means I’m ahead on miles for the week (ignoring my planned KOS on Friday) so I can afford to take it a bit easier today and tomorrow in the lead-up to my KOS day.

I gave myself and extra 15 minutes of sleep and woke up at 4:45am instead of 4:30am. My plan was to do my strength workout and then do Endurance+. If that’s all I had time for then I was fine with that.

Somehow I wasn’t too sluggish waking up and getting ready (i.e. I didn’t spend 45 minutes in the boy’s room), so by the time I finished my Full Body 2 strength workout (12 minutes) I was able to start Endurance+ at 5:26am. That means I would finish it before 7am. And since I have an internal deadline of 7:15 that meant I had some extra time to play with.

Endurance+ gave me 26.8 miles of riding. Rather than ride more Zone 2 I started up a session of Recovery Spin and pushed it down to 103w and did 15 minutes of easy spinning. So all in all instead of my usual 2 hours of Zone 2 (minus 5 minutes warm up and 5 minutes cool down) I did only 90 minutes of Zone 2 (minus the warm up and cool down) and added on just 15 more minutes of easy spinning. So 15 minutes less total time and 30 minutes less Zone 2. I think that counts as a decent compromise taper plan. And the extra 15 minutes of Recovery Spin gave me 3.7 more miles to bump my total miles for the day to 30.6 miles and met my goal for the day according to my weekly plan.

Endurance 2 on Monday gave me over 35 miles and Tapers+Open 15 gave me 17 miles yesterday. Now, since I’m equal today and over by 7 miles from Mon and Tues, I can do Openers tomorrow (Thurs) and not worry about trying to get a full 15. I’ll likely get 12 or 13 and that’ll be more than enough. And if I feel I need some extra spinning, I can do 5 or 10 minutes at 100w and be fine. And I can even sleep in tomorrow until 5:30. Woohoo!! Maybe I can actually get to bed tonight by 10 and get over 7 hours of sleep. That would be fantastic for the night before KoS night.

Current Taper Score:
Ride all the miles: 1
Taper week: 2

You prefer openers over primers?

I have no idea. I’m doing a modified 200 Mile Gravel plan and Openers is the scheduled workout, so I left it.

Also, I just checked and it seems I’ve never done Openers before! Which I’m not surprised about since it’s a no-vid.

On the other hand, I’ve done Primers a number of times. Usually the day before a FF 4DP test. And Primers always felt like too much intensity for the day before a test. So, I’ll see tomorrow which I prefer. But just from a glance I feel like I’m going to prefer Openers.

And if I feel I need a little more intensity I can always do Igniter. But probably not.

I did one time, but mostly as a preview while my back was recovering so I rode it in level mode as an easy free spin and averaged 100w. I’m checking it out in the app and it looks like it could be a good alternative, as well. :+1:

@emacdoug I am a fan of Openers. I set it up on RGT as a workout and alternate depending on how I feel.

After riding Openers this morning I can say for certain that I most definitely prefer them to Primers. Still some good efforts and intensity, but not as many. Left me feeling strong rather than Primers which usually makes me feel a bit fatigued. Almost compare it to Recharger, lol, just that the two efforts are flat instead of pyramids. And the 3 MAP efforts at the end or 30 seconds instead of 15. But it definitely left me feeling great rather than tired. And that’s the feeling I want to have the day before my event.

So all in all it looks for now like Taper week has been a success! Rode 96 miles and I feel strong heading into tomorrow. :muscle: :crossed_swords:

Oh, I’ve got plenty of room for more stickers (decals). I have a few more years’ worth left.

My bank account has lots of room for more money, too. lol. Not enough in it for a new bike.

Yet.

I still don’t understand. What’s happening tomorrow ? I assume it’s something of no importance. Just a regular spin out?

P.S. Kill it.
