@Glen.Coutts Yes, my date with GvA (with apologies to @AkaPete ) is Friday Nov 18.
I’ll be up dark and early. Probably shortly after 2am. Hoping if I can get started early I can finish by 4pm and be showered and ready for family pizza and movie night. And if SYSTM goes down again (like it did right when I was supposed to start my quest last year) I will have some extra time to play with.
Maybe if I take the full 10 minutes break in between then my legs will last longer. I have a bad habit of rushing to shorten the breaks to closer to 5 minutes.

Welp, it’s Sunday night. Quest begins in less than five days’ time. Been trying to convince myself to taper. But I’m having a hard time doing less. We’ll see if I can successfully taper this week. I could really use the extra sleep. But habits are hard to break. And my kids have a habit of ruining my attempts and extra sleep….
So anyway, just counting down the days. I must be crazy because I’m excited rather than anxious. ![]()

Fwiw, I think given the volume of what you are doing on KoS3 day, you’ve got little to worry about (beyond the inanity of it).
I believe tapering is geared at reduced intensity more than reduced volume especially when we’re looking at a day n the saddle like you’ve got planned for us.
Edit: this got me thinking you may want to rename your quest to the 3rd Annual KoS Quest rather than the 2nd anniversary ![]()
Hmm… I was thinking something similar, but maybe in the middle. Keeping some intensity but in smaller amounts and reducing some of the overall volume. Overall, our Intensity degrades quicker than our endurance, so a drop in volume wouldn’t hurt the base I’ve built while helping reduce fatigue. And then keeping some intensity, but at a reduced amount to keep those muscles primed while not doing enough to create any additional fatigue. But in just 4 days I’m not sure how much I’ll notice either way. I haven’t been doing a lot of intensity lately anyway. lol. Other than doing FF on the day before I did my half-KoS test. ![]()
Great minds think alike. lol. I’ve considered this point a number of times and waffled back and forth. I think my first point was I didn’t want it to be an annual thing. Ha! So much for that. So the idea was that it’s my 2nd anniversary, so that makes it my third quest. But then it gets to the same confusion that people have when trying to decipher what years a century refers to. The 16th century is the 1500’s and that continues to baffle probably 99% of the population (and probably at least 50% of historians who study this stuff and should know better). So, yeah, referring to it as my 3rd Annual KoS Quest would probably be less confusing. heh
You’re probably right. And that’s about the conclusion I’ve come to as well.
I’m sure in the end my taper (if any) will be small and it’ll likely make little difference anyway for this my 1st anniversary of my 2nd Annual KoS Quest.

Looks good to me. I’m on the Taper week for a Metric Century on Saturday where I’m providing support to riders.
Did Tapers this morning…
I could be wrong, but even tho the efforts are just a small part of the workout, it sure felt like it was higher intensity than what I usually do. I ended up doing Open 15 at 103w and 80-85rpms afterward for an additional session of easy spinning to recover from the Tapers session. ![]()
Trying to decide between doing Endurance+ at 90 minutes tomorrow or doing my usual Endurance 2. Endurance+ would probably be the prudent thing to do, but my brain keeps telling me “It’s only 30 extra minutes of zone 2.”

Oh, and I also have the Full Body 2 strength session scheduled before tomorrow’s endurance ride. So, maybe I should stick to Endurance+. But I did feel fine doing Full Body 1 before Endurance 2 on Monday…
Leaning towards sticking with the plan and doing Endurance+ tomorrow. That is 30 extra minutes of sleep, anyway. ![]()
I did do the scheduled Morning Yoga Session video before I did Tapers this morning, so I think I’m at least trying to do it right.
In the end, I did do my Yoga and Tapers this morning… and I did ride Open 15 super easy like, sooo…
