That is precisely it. I have an Edge 530 that I use when I want to know my lap power or NP for a particular section of a workout. I know there are folks who use it during FF to help with their pacing during the 5 minute and 20 minute sections.
I use my Wahoo Elmnt Bolt
Just tried tried with my Sigma headunit. Work flawlessly.
@AndM It is an interesting idea. My benchmark videos for power at around one hour are Team Scream which you have already mentioned and The Hunted. If you havenāt tried The Hunted, check it out as it is is mostly sub-threshold FTP but with little recovery and then switches to a few MAP efforts right at the end.
If I were to do a full hour at what is my FTP on the trainer well, youād have to have a gun to me head but, Iād create a workout file in a workout creator such as Training Peaks which I believe can output .mrc and .erg files and use a third party tool such as Golden Cheetah to display the power requirements using their āTrainā display whilst watching a video.
I can do Team Scream at 110% and achieved my 1h record(s) with that video. Even though the actual effort last less than an hour, that 1 hour record is just a few watts below my FTP derived by the FF. If I calculate/estimate the average power for that 55ish minutes, it is most probably above that FF result.
Now, while I don“t see that I could go significantly harder during the FF, I have the feeling that their is some additional room left in a Team Scream-like workout.
This might has to do a lot with psychological factors. While during Long Scream and FF I always have the 30/20 minutes in my mind, while Team Scream allows my to focus on just that 3 minutes chuncks.
