4DP® Profile Results As Estimate of VO2 Max

Can the (4DP®) Profile results be used to estimate VO2 Max?
I want to populate Apple health app with VO2 Max information. I think it estimates VO2 Max from a walking effort. It’s called “Cardio Fitness” in the health app.
I have foot issues that make it difficult to walk fast and thus difficult to get good results directly into the health app.
I’m not looking to take a real on bike VO2 Max test.

To the best of my knowledge, the 4DP test will provide estimated power at your VO2max level (I think this is MAP) but it doesn’t actually report your VO2 max value.

I have a Garmin bike computer and have always used the figure it reports for this.

Even on the bike, you need to push your limits to find your true VO2 max and thus you need to determine whether your foot challenges will deter you.

If you search for “Rockport Walking Test” you can get information about a relatively gentle test that is a standard in the fitness industry.

Think I’m due for a VO2 max test this year - would like to see how I’m doing entering my (ahem) late 50’s. Though the “simple formula” you cite to, @Glen.Coutts puts me in the 62-70 range, which I’d be QUITE happy with!

Which reminds me I need to do some max effort testing to try and reassess my MHR at some point too.

I asked because I did 74 miles on Monday around the Boston area and that was sort of what the weather was.

I’ve never taken a “real” VO2 Max test in a lab, but your post got me interested in reading about the various test protocols for estimating one, since the walking test noted it might be a poor estimate for more highly fit individuals.

I was also interested to see the discussion of heritability vs. training, which aligned with discussions I’ve heard on VO2-Max-focused episodes of the Empirical Cycling Podcast about how much of the training effect comes from increased heart size and stroke volume:
