All Purpose vs. Event Prep 100k - Difference in Training time

I am reading through the possible trainings plans. I compared 12 Weeks Event Prep 100k and 12 Weeks All Purpose, both moderate 3:1.

Moderate for Event Prep is 4-6h, for All Purpose 4-7. Comparing the plans, however, shows that Event Prep, supposed to have less training hours, has much more hours than All Purpose. Do I oversee anything? If not, what is the idea behind (Event Prep moderate, 4-6 hours, has about 2/3 of the weeks with > 6h, up to 8:29!

Welcome!

First of all, let me say that you are making good observations. At the summary level, it’s difficult to see the difference between the two plans.

To truly understand them, you would have to look at the individual workouts that are included and pay particular attention to the Intensity (IF), not just the duration of each workout. This isn’t easy to do, but I’m a veteran user of these plans, so it comes a little easier to me.

Based on a quick scan of both of them, I favour the All Purpose (AP)plan for a couple reasons:

  1. AP appears to have more Sufferfest content as opposed to other channels and No Vids — I really like the Suf workouts

  2. I think AP generally has higher intensity. There is enough volume in the AP to build my endurance to do a 100 km event, but I want to improve my all around speed, strength, and power too. I already know I can ride 100 km but I want to “sharpen the knife” as they say.

Depending on where you are starting from, you can’t go wrong with either plan, but based on my experience, the AP plans are really good.

It is odd, from a time available point of view for sure. Interestingly the low volume Event Prep is pretty much the same time-wise as the Moderate AP one - but not dug into the relative intensity, however that’s not what the available time selection should be there for IMO.

Hi Steve - good hint with the higher amount of Suff-stuff. I like them as well! And yes, that most probably both bring you further I believe as well (I neither have to prove myself that I can do 100k, I just want to make my friends suffer a bit  - and have more fun with higher speed!

Great trainings, Daniel

Ha!

I like how you think. Remember, everybody hurts… but by putting in the work with Suf, you’re making sure everybody hurts just a little more than you!
