Bolt V3 Set Up Issues

Running into an incredibly frustrating issue with my Bolt V3. I purchased it a while ago in the US, set it up, and it worked well. I used it consistently for months. After a long break and international move to Taiwan, I tried to use it again but had multiple issues.

  • couldn’t connect to my new wifi easily
  • couldn’t update firmware
  • couldn’t send routes to my phone
  • couldn’t download map

After all that, I factory reset the Bolt in an attempt to get it working. Now I can’t get past the initial set up. I pair the device to my phone, supposedly connect to wifi, but it hangs on the “Updating ELEMNT BOLT…”. I’ve ended the process and hit reset multiple times, with no luck. Is there a way to set up the system without Wi-Fi? Is it a firmware issue? Is it an issue because I changed regions? Any help is appreciated.

V3 hardware no longer uses ELEMNT app; rather Wahoo App. That said, ensure WA is up-to-date with your local region through your device’s app store. From there, set up B3 as new. Your settings should be saved in the cloud, so, once it’s recognized on wifi, setup should be a breeze.

Good luck!

That definitely sounds frustrating, especially since the Bolt was working fine before your move. I agree with the suggestion to make sure you’re using the latest Wahoo app rather than the older ELEMNT app. I’d also try forgetting the Bolt from your phone’s Bluetooth settings before pairing it again, just to make sure it’s starting completely fresh.

I don’t think changing regions should prevent the device from working, so I’d be more inclined to think it’s getting stuck on the firmware update. If you have access to another Wi-Fi network, it could be worth trying that too, since sometimes certain network settings can cause issues during the initial setup. Hopefully it’s something simple and you can get it up and running again. Let us know if you manage to get past the update screen.
