I started a Climbing and FTP program back in Jan, to end in 2 weeks, right in time for a trip to Girona. The main goal was to train and load on Climbs (sustained) and increase my FTP for longer ride distances (100-200km /day).
The FTP gain was a success as i went from 225 to 265 in that measured amount of time. I also supplement with 3 gym workouts per week. Coupled with a good diet, my weight remained constant (90kg) but lost considerable amount of fat.
However, on my Wahoo 4D thing, it keeps telling me my Endurance is negative and lowering. I am very confused about this metric now.
Following the program also keeps me well into the “over trained” constantly, which also confuses me.
I have seen the same trend on my graphs. I think it’s because until a couple of months ago all my outdoor work was without a power meter, so all given an estimated DTL, which I think only credits the endurance part of my fitness. So it’s not that my endurance load has dropped, rather it was previously overestimated.
Everything except cycling with power and cadence gets categorized as “FTP”.
That is to say when you look at the DTL histograms, these workouts will show grey for estimated DTL. When you go back and click into the Training Trends that shows your trends for the four different DTL contributors, all of those grey activities get added to the blue FTP area.
This happens for all of my runs and indoor rowing activities.
I got a feeling that the DTL for outdoor rides without a power meter or cadence gets rated based only on estimated calories burnt, which is derived from heart rate, time riding and how you rate the difficulty of ride.
