GPS signal lost and date error 17-Aug 2025

Good evening. I face the same problem. Today I put the speed sensor. Beyond the current speed I noticed guess what…. My Element Bolt was receiving GPS signal!!! When I removed the speed sensor the GPS signal was lost…. I added again the speed sensor and the GPS signal returned….. Frustrating, doesn’t it? Of course all the ride was recorded.

Wahoo enough time has passed now to make trying to fix forward an unacceptable approach. This needs backing out now and returning to the last working version.

Exactly, it is a global problem for big part of devices … should be fixed already

Hello. Wahoo team . The problem has been going on for too long. It’s time to fix this bug. My next purchase will not be wahoo. Thanks

Hi

Same here in Singapore . Quite frustrating I have received many intermittent GPS Signal lost today. So this is a global issue. Hope Wahoo can fix the bugs soon or at least revert back to last version of firmware

Based on my experience working in the software industry, the resolution of this issue will take a number of weeks not days. It is a software bug and one that Wahoo could have seen coming, reminiscent of the millennium bug for those old enough to remember (I’m one of them).

We know by now that a number of different “older” Wahoo devices is involved, for which one or more software fixes need to be found, tested and rolled out. With some liberty I’m assuming Wahoo’s software team works in sprints (Agile/Scrum terminology, unfortunately unrelated to cycling) of around two weeks. This issue could require one or two of such sprints to resolve, and more if it’s a tough nut to crack.

The suggestion by Wahoo’s to use their fitness training app in the meantime is not useful for me, as my device is too “old” to connect to that app. So I’m recording via the Strava phone app in the meantime, without navigation.

Deliberately I’m putting “old” between quotation marks, as I have navigation devices in cars that are much older than my Wahoo ELEMNT and they perform faultlessly. Imagine this happening to a device in any premium car brand…. Heads would roll.

Love(d) my Bolt. Then the Roam with bigger screen and rerouting.

Now I’ve just lost some fast club rides achievements I can’t boast of in the cafe or bore my wife about and feel like I’m back in January 2006.

Got lost on last club ride as was certain I was on the right route and everyone else was wrong. You lose faith in the computer once that happens.Nearly bought a new one till I found the posts about software cockup.

Still won’t solve the issue of the screen edges all delaminating in an unsightly mess.

My lumbar spine would take that trade in a minute…

Well said - I’m a long time dev myself. It could even be that with it being an older generation device that the codebase is archived and the tooling for coding and QA has moved on and needs to be resurrected before that can bug fixing can even be actioned. Code review, testing, QA, firmware upgrade testing (to make sure they don’t brick devices), website updating, making it available on release servers and of course comms has to be officially signed off too. Lots of cogs in the process and each will be causing a delay.
I’m sure the devs would love to have it fixed in quick time, and indeed if it’s simple just the GPS time overflow issue then they could have that sorted in about 10 minutes - but all the corporate release steps to go through just sadly means that it will take time and I would be extremely impressed if we saw a release within 7 days (so still 2 days to go), and inside a fortnight would be great. I’m just happy they said they were doing a firmware upgrade and didn’t just brush it off as an unsupported device - they get a thumbsup for that at least.

It seems to just be the GPS part that’s not working on the device, mine at least seems to be recording the majority of the route just fine, just not showing the moving speed/gradient when it has a wee moment to itself. Not the end of the world as the HRM and Power data is still there which means it’s not necessarily affecting training.

I’ll just throw my experience with my Roam V1 into the mix FWIW. On a ride I took on August 18, everything recorded fine, but the date of the .fit file was January 2, 2006. I took another ride today, August 21. The unit worked fine until a little more than halfway through an 80+ kms ride and then started exhibiting some of the symptoms described above, speed suddenly going blank for several minutes, randomly pausing and resuming the ride. Just before the end of the ride, the total distance was 2 kms less than that indicated on my buddy’s Garmin. Interestingly, the .fit file this time actually showed the correct date.

Update: On a ride today (August 23), the unit was unable to obtain a GPS signal and thus gave no speed or distance data. The main display also seems to have reverted to the default fields. While it was not displayed, the unit did record power and heart rate. The ELEMNT app interpreted the ride as indoor cycling and did have the correct date on the .fit file that it generated. One hopes that the email that I received today from Wahoo suggesting that a firmware update could be ready to push out next week is more than wishful thinking.

Dusted down my old Garmin 810 to record today’s ride. Forgotten how much I liked touchscreen! Had the Roam in my back pocket. As expected it wasn’t working properly and not fit for purpose. Presumably this will eventually affect all devices using the same firmware albeit in 12 months time?

Same problem here, Wahoo Elemnt I thought my device was dying, it records the training data, but do not show the current speed, I have used 1 time, upload the training, made a full reset, and the problem still there…

Same problem. Happened after a hard crash. Thought I killed the head unit, but just another software bug. A guy trying to save a a few bits… What you learn in college doesn’t apply in the real world

Same problem from august, 19. Bolt V1 loosing GPS signal. Waiting for the software update

What I find strange is the different glitches people describe. Some get routes, no speed. Some get speed, no route, etc. We have the same firmware (I assume). How is this explained?

My unit has done exactly the same. Also screen has started to delaminate. I’ve filled in the warranty claim so will see.

A bit frustrating as it coincided with my trip to the Pyrenees and some exciting climbs that weren’t recorded correctly.

Same problem. I need to upload my rides to training peaks and until today I was able to search for them. But now the date says 07 MO1 2006 which cannot be found on training peaks. So I have no idea how to find my ride. Any suggestions?

Export the file as e.g. a gpx file then manipulate the file with a tool like gotoes for Strava…
Good luck
M

How do I export it from my head unit?

Looks like no fix until well into next week now and that assumes the testing passes. I won’t be able to navigate on this week’s club ride but luckily there will be Garmin users that can. Embarrassing for Wahoo really.
